Need a Trailer, where do I start?
Hi people. I am hoping someone can help me out. I am looking at getting some kind of trailer for hauling my planes, but don't have a lot of money spend and not a clue as to where to look. I found a little 10' U.S. Cargo for $1700 new, but that is WAY to expensive. Does anyone have any good ideas for a CHEAP trailer? I am looking at $300 to $400? I am looking for function over looks. Thanks.

I've read here about folks that have built their own by starting with a flat steel garden type trailer. Do a Search on "trailer", there have been a few threads.

The least expensive option I have seen is to find a retired pop-up camper trailer.
Remove the tent and you are in business. I recently saw a small one that a guy had been
using to carry his hunting gear in sell for $200.00.
Good Luck

I picked up a pop up camper ror free and gave it to a friend. Two weeks later he had a trailer that would haul five giant scale airplanes. Another benefit of popups is that they aren't sprung too heavily as to shake your airplanes apart.

RE: Need a Trailer, where do I start?
Built mine for $500.00 I can carry two 1/3 planes and a 120. I started with a trailer frame kit from Menard's for $175. It has a fold-up shelf on one side to put my easy-up canopy and chairs on and a larger fold-up shelf on the other side that is useful for working on planes. I have the 12 volt battery mounted on the outside (black box) which gives me 12 volt power as well as a power-converter inside so I can run chargers off of 12 volt or 110. I put a large toolbox over the tongue of the trailer where I carry all of my gas & glow fuel. I got carried away and put a fan that draws cool air from the outside and blows the hot air from the inside out a vent. This is good when I leave my planes in the trailer for a day or two in the hot sun. I also carpeted the inside and made wheel-chalks with velcro on the back so I could adjust them easily for any plane that I choose to carry. Not the fanciest I've seen but a lot cheaper than some of my friends' $5000 trailers.

Blackie,
Your web site is one of the most interesting ones I've seen. You should be very proud of both your trailer and workshop. It's nice to see someone build such nice items on a budget.

Thanks for the pictures 76.ta, it gives me an idea, also, Blackie, nice trailer, wish I had welding capabilities, the frame seems very strong.
