Denkado Musette 1.1m F3A Assembly
I have had the privilege of being able to acquire an Denkado Musette 1.1m F3A practice pattern plane from Japan. (Thank you Lewis!). I plan to take my time with the assembly as I am sure I will not be able to get ahold of another one. I have watched several YouTube videos and gone through the various Japanese pattern websites looking over what equipment others seem to be using and I have tried to select lighter and higher performance equipment where possible.
Specs-
Wingspan: 1100mm
Length: 1185mm
AUW: 1300g
Battery: 3-4 cell 2200-3000
Servos: micro/mini
Motor: 700-800 watts
ESC: 50-60amp
Equipment I'll be using:
Motor: Motrofly DM2825-650
ESC: O.S 150HV
Battery: Zippy Compact 4 cell 2200mah
Prop: CF Falcon 15x7
Spinner: Gator RC 2" cooling spinner
Servos: MKS 6100HV's

Progress...
Slow but steady progress. The motor mounting system they designed the plane with is really nice with the rubber isolation pads. It's such a pleasure to build a plane that has such incredible quality. Everything fits so precise and all the wood and balsa is so nice! It's worlds different from the usual ARF's that we get here in the U.S. Should be flying by tomorrow!

Well, I just put the last few finishing touches on it and I'm absolutely in love with it! It definitely sets itself apart from your typical little pattern plane that's for sure! If it flys half as well as it looks Im sure will satisfy my need for some nice great big symmetrical lines in the sky! I didn't get a chance to weigh it but ill post it later. The fit and finish of everything made this a real joy to build/assemble. Quality that I have never seen in a model airplane kit in my 9 years of flying. I didn't have time to maiden it before work but I'll be sure to do a short video as soon as I can.
Keep checking back as I'll be sure post the YouTube link when I do the flight video.

Well the AUW with battery came to 1095 grams or 38.62 ounces! Insane! And this is on a 4 cell setup! I will do a wattage check soon and see where its at on the meter. With the super light servos and lighter motor I knew it would be light but not this light! I can't wait to fly this thing! I did a run up and the power feels crazy! Held itself in a hover at 1/3 throttle

That's about $242. I wonder how many would sell at that price. OTOH, someone should make and export a 38-44 inch span F3A plane.

OK, it is possible to order these planes again.
There is no advantage of a group buy/single shipment, so it looks like everyone can just place the order directly with Kurosawa-san (he is agent for DENKADO...Kadokura-san)
He is extremely professional and prompt with orders, build updates and shipping information.

I am waiting for Denkado to send me my bill. I just placed an order for 2 more. I flew mine once and then had an extension/receiver failure (still looking into the exact cause). Total loss as the I lost the elevator and couldn't bring it down with just Rudd and ail. Although it's doable I do realize this but in the moment I wasn't prepared and choked. I was devastated but this is just a certainty if you fly model airplanes sometimes things happen that's out of our control and we have to jump back on the horse and continue on!
I contacted Denkado they were totally on board with getting me another one (of course full price) but I didn't think I'd even be able to get another one.
I did get one flight on it however and my initial thoughts are tremendous. It flew knife edge loops hands off ail/Elev and was such a precision monster. It really gave such good positive feedback on each control surface giving you complete confidence to out it through any sequence you could imagine. Felt extremely neutral and snaps were a little slow my my taste (I think the ailerons could be a little bigger perhaps. But that's just nit picking and I did only get one battery so all my flight impressions I'm drawing just from one 3-4 minute flight. But needless to say I liked it so much that I decided to order 2 more! So that should tell you something! honestly I enjoyed the build soooo much! It was such a fun build because of how well the fit and finish was on every single piece of the airframe. The only unfortunate part is that the new airframes won't be ready until April/'May. So I'll be impatiently waiting until the day my next ones arrive! I will be ready!!!!

I received my new Musette a couple days ago. I took all of what I remember wanting to change about the construction of the last one and applied it to be new one. I ordered it with the optional T-Canalyzer and since I could pick my color I chose purple since it reminded me of the old school Funtana scheme. This one came out 9 grams lighter which isn't a huge improvement but still, I'll take it! Now having put about 7 flights on it and getting the basic trims down I can't say enough how beautiful it flys for a little pattern plane! The wing shape and airfoil lend itself to be super smooth and precise. Snaps are extremely predictable and repeatable. Now I will start with the more in depth trimming procedures. But my preliminary feelings are that this will surely become my go to model for my lazy days. I am flying it it 4 cell 25c 2200's and am getting about 5:30 minutes with 25-30% residual battery remaining. I feel it could easily handle a larger battery so I ordered some 4 cell 25c 2700's to try out. I will be sure to shoot some video as soon as I can get a camera man.
Changes made on this one:
-An actual tailwheel instead of the fixed bent wire. So much better!
-Glued in the motor mount VS using supplied screws for mounting.
-Slight down thrust added
-Reinforced wing tube holes in wings and fuse
-Ordered a CF wingtube to replace heavy aluminum tube
-NMP ball links & Central Hobbies Ball Bearing Clevises for slop free silky smooth surface movement.
-Testing new Hitec 5070MH on ailerons. I'm shocked at how well they center!!!!! And super strong and fast!
-15x8 CF Falcon prop VS 15x7 CF Falcon on the last one.
-57mm F3A Unlimited vented spinner VS 51mm spinner (looks and fits the nose much better)
-Only used the elevator triangle stock on one side the elevator.
