Help w/ Clear Ultracote!
Guys,
I must be missing something here.
This is the first time that I planned to use H9 Clear Ultracote to seal my hinge gaps. Before, I always used whatever color the plane was, at the hinge line. Now, my H9 33% Extra has several different colors at the hinge line, so I planned on using Clear Ultracote part# HANU964. This is EXACTLY what the instruction manual called for also.
Now,
I noticed when I bought the roll of Clear Ultracote, that there was no backing to the Ultracote itself, as there always is.
I thought that the adhesive must just be there, and for some reason they didn't use the white paper backing as usual.
When I went to iron on a piece, the stuff just doesn't stick! No adhesive ON EITHER SIDE.
What the heck am I missing here?
P.S. This was a brand new, unopened roll.

Sounds like a case of the Emporer's New Clothes to me. I've never used their clear, but you should probably contact the manufacturer and ask them about it.

RE: Help w/ Clear Ultracote!
There is a backing sheet. I couldn't remember if it was opaque or clear and just went down to my shop to check - it's opaque. When I was sealing the gaps on my H9 CAP, my LHS didn't have clear Ultracote so I purchased the clear monocote instead and it didn't work at all - looked like cr*p. I peeled it off, ordered some clear, genuine UC online, and it worked great. Keep the temp about 250 -275, seemed to work the best.

RE: Help w/ Clear Ultracote!
Dear Paul,
the regular Ultracote has a siliconised white paper backing, but the light Ultracote has a clear backing. To remove the clear backing, it is recommended to stick two pieces of self-adhesive tape on top and back of one corner of the Ultracote and pull at the tape. The covering should separate nicely from the clear backing.
best regards,
Pilot 01
