nOOb here. Can't decide whether to get a stadium or monster truck...
Hey all. New to the nitro and R/C scene... seriously considering the new 2.5 T-Maxx, but now I've been thinking whether or not a stadium truck (Rustler) would be a better way to go.
How much of an advantage does a monster truck have in rougher terrain? Mud? Which one is more sturdy and durable?
Thanks for your help.

Well if your lookin to go mudding and climbing and stuff like that I would deffinetely go for a 2.5 But if your more into racing I would go with a stadium truck. But the best stadium truck in my opinion is a losi xxx-nt or a rc10gt

MT's are stronger and seem to take the bigger bumps and jumps better, The stadium trucks are quicker as far as turning and they are a little more agile

For mud ,rough terrain, rocks, even tall grass and weeds, tou gotta get a MT. The 4-wheel drive, high ground clearance, and shock travel of a MT will take you places you could only dream about with a stadium truck.

I'll probably go with a T-Maxx. Now what's all this stuff I hear about things breaking right after buying the damn thing? Should I order the truck and upgrades at the same time, or wait till something breaks?

Yes charlie order RPM nylon suspension arms, shock towers and body mounts. They are cheap and almost indestructable. Stock parts will break (espeacially in cold weather) Get aluminum steering knuckles to save you when you land to hard on the ass end or front.

Yeah, I'll be doing a good amount of mud, dirt, grass, and leaf runs until I build a little track in the woods behind my house...

If your close to an rc store that carry's parts for a t-maxx I would wait for the parts to break before i went out and bought the up-grades. I would get rpm a-arms and titanium turnbuckles for my first upgrades. Also I would thing about getting rpm skid plates and such. RPM is the way to go there guaranteed not to break.

Here is what helped me. Monster trucks could be run anywhere, street, backyard, tough terrain and in tracks. The stadium truck will probably be limited to tracks and streets, which leaves a lot less playing time.

I have a 2.5 - I would not recommend the truck myself. I do not want this to be a bash athon so i wont go into all the why's and why nots.
Personally I do love the MT's because the 4 wheel drive helps you get through more and are more capable than most ST's out there. But if you do want to race, it seems there are more places for ST's than MT's in the racing seen.

normally id say 2.5 all the way but its engine is really picky and a real pain in the ass to tune properly, especially for a noob.only buy the 2.5 if you know some one that has had a nitro for a year or so to help you out.
secondly, why would you ask about mt's over st's in a monster truck forum,of course every ones going to say monster truck.next time go to general rc discussion or something
T-Maxx Rules everybosies ass

get a sportmax you can set it up like a stadium truck and if you rather a monster truck you can turn it into a full 4wd tmaxx

i was kind of debating also before i got my maxx. i love it, its not hard to tune just dont mess with the LSN and buy the right glow plugs for it. i haven't had anything break on it yet. I would recommend a MT over a ST just because you can do more with them, i know i made the right decission for me

RE: nOOb here. Can't decide whether to get a stadium or monster truck...
I am a newbie to RC and purchased the 2.5 T-Max,the hobby store where I got it has a guy that does all the repair of the trucks and he told me how to break it in and then he tuned it for me before and after break-in,because of the altitude here in Colorado it needs special settings and break-in.I have never owned a RC until the day after Christmas and now I am sold on the T-Max although I am going to buy a Savage in March so that I can have both.I had the hobby shop do the tuning and it runs great and is no problem except learning how to control it.As for upgrades I would put Aluminum Bulkheads on it because if you crash it at any high speed they will be the first to go,I know I hit a curb when my TX lost signal and the truck went to full throttle, also I would purchase a TX fail safe to put on the truck,it will save you some Expensive crashes if you loose TX contact with the truck,I now have one on my truck and will be the first thing I will put on the Savage when I buy it.Just my two cents worth.

Go with RPM plastic a-arms, they're cheaper and lighter then aluminum, and guaranteed not to break.

If you are going to pay$500.00 for a truck why would you go cheap on parts? As for plastic I have yet to see plastic out last Aluminum, seems pretty DUMB to pay so much for a truck then go cheap on parts, but that is your thing as for me my truck will have all aluminum and so will the Savage that I buy also.I will bet you will spend more on replacement parts than I will after that unbreakable Plastic is broken.

Whatever, I was tryin to help you out. Not only is RPM stuff cheaper and lighter, it's GUARANTEED not to brake. If for some reason you did brake one, RPM will replace it. I've yet to read a post of someone braking an RPM product. Aluminum does look cooler, but it has no "give" in a crash. Aluminum can and will bend in a hard enough crash. After spending $400 on a truck, I replace broken parts with more durable ones. If money is no issue for you, do whatever you want. When your forking out the green to replace your bent alum parts, I'll be sitting back, getting my replacements for free. Alum weighs up pretty quick, and a heavy truck is a slow truck. Money adds up pretty quick in this hobby also, I was just tryin to save you some.

Thank you but you see I am doing this not for the speed or to see how fast I can break it by beating it up,I run my truck in empty parking lots no where else. I am doing this just to have a nice hobby that gets me out of the house,I am probably much older than most on this message board and am disabled,I am not here to be a person to give advise all I talk about is what I do with my trucks and what I am told by the person at the hobby store.I do not tune or mess with the Engine that I leave to the people who know how to do this kind of thing.
I have no urge to make any one mad all I want to do is talk about trucks and have fun,Thank You
