well... i tried the search button and didnt find much so i thought i would start a thread. i was out running my maxx on my track when all of a sudden it had no bottom end. it would bog out then as soon as the rpms got up it would take of and drive like normal but it had nop bottom end so i thought maybe the low speed sreew came loose and the bottom end was too rich. but when i picked up the maxx to do a tune check by holding the car in the air and given it gas. the only front wheel that whould spin was the front right wheel. the left wheel didnt even move. so i did thart check thing that someone had on here to check the diffs and well. the front diff is fried. so i took it all apart and there was like 5 teath missing. so to get to my q.
what are the best diffs. i was looking at the ue 7.5 8 spyder diff. this one. http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/...ore/13543.html but to get these diffs you have to buy the fronbt and the rear b/c they are geared diffrent. so i was wondering if there are any other diffs out like the ue diff that i dont have to buy a front and a rear at the same time. i dont want to buy the diff case, just the ineards.

What kind of engine are your running? How long did that diff. last you? I'm asking because for the price I would just get another stock diff off ebay, they only run $12-$20, you could get 4 for the price of those gears and I'm sure there's other places you'd much rather spend the money on the truck. Body, wheels/tires, aluminum hop-ups.

As for the best gears, I would have to say most people would say UE.

well..im running a AE .21 engine off a monster gt. i have bow ties already so i dont need tires but another set wouldnt hurt. i do need a new body though. i only ran like half a gallon before it went out. i like how the ue diffs are made. with the 8 spyders and all. they have to be strong.

I would denfintaly consider putting RRP gears in your new one.

Looks like for about $75 you can get both the front and rear

thanks schmism. i need the diff gears, not the case. also if anyone else missunderstude i need the spyders not the ring and pinion. thanks for your help though scmism.

New Diff huh. you have a couple of choices. First go RRP they last but not under major hp with the stock diff cases. I know first hand I just fried one and did that with a 8p race. Second RRP or Tmaxx ring gears with Maximizer diff cups. Should last and hold up to hp but I can't really say how much hp they can take. And lastly the UE stuff widely regarded as the best only downside is the stuff coast as much as a new truck.

You stripped the diff. after 1/2 gallon of fuel? I'm guessing it wan't brand new then. Plus it was the front, that's kinda weird too. From what I've read it's usually the rear that gives. I know mine with the 2.5 lasted me 6 months, lots of street use though plus 200,000 wt. silicone in the rear which is a combination for trouble. If money isn't an issue just get the UE gears.

no it isnt close to drand new. i got this maxx like 3 1/2 years ago. when it was pro .15 model. i just now got a .21 in it. i have 1/2 gallon throught it with the .21.

The diffs can be strengthened by just using the GA cases or the UE stock cases and stock gears. The reason they shear so much is partially because the stock cases have so much flex allowing the ring and the pinion to basically bounce inside. When shimmed properly, the diff will maintain full contact with the respective parts and last much longer. As long as you are using a lower power .21 like the AE, RG, or Ofna type, they will last a long time.

its not the ring gear and pinion that broke. its the spyders inside the diff. the out put yokes i think they are called. i wish it was just the ring and pinion b/c i have an extra set of those.
