Fuel Tank In edge
hi there all
i wondered where the Fuel tank should be put in a edge. i have a 24oz fuel tank that came with the Hardware pack. some people say inline with the thrust line other say put on the place provided. what will it do to the CG off the plane.
any help
Michael
P.s any pics to show how it sits?

Set it where Flier has his in the picture. Nothing changes with the C/G as fuel is burned off. There have been way too many of these planes set up this way and continuously flown successfully to have been wrong. It's the same for the 300S as well.

flier, looks like you have one ball link above and one below the rudder servo arm, why?
Do your pull-pull wires cross? I have mine running straight. Do I not know something?

I'll take a stab at that.
He's probably got his pull-pull wires crossed, and this helps keep them from rubbing against each other.
PS - flier - how do you like your ZDZ? Are you using the 50? How is vertical/pullout performance?

On mine, I did cross the pull-pull set up so the linkage is set
with one up one down so as to not rub each other.
I went with the ZDZ-60, for that little extra power
The ZDZ-60 is a great engine choice for all the Wild Hare 28% planes.
Set mine up with the SuperSonic pitts style muffler and a 22 x 8 prop.
Balanced out right on the money using the Tru-Turn spinner.

You can save a lot of weight by going with a 18-20 oz. gas tank ( unless you are using a 80 cc gas motor) I run my BME 60 for about 15+ min and still have about 1/3-1/2 tank left. Push it all the way back over the cg. works great

I ran my WH on a 20 oz tank and the timer at 14 minutes and I still came in with 1/3 tank left. I don't think you can burn 20 oz even at full throttle at 16 minutes. so bases on how long you want to fly plane accordable. I downsized to a 16 oz tank on all 50cc motors now, still easy 14 minute flights. yeah move those tanks back on the tube better CG results while flying[8D]

when you do downlines you wont lose those drops and the plane won't get as dirty on the bottom. have you even seen when someone picks up the tail of thier plane after fueling it drips some fuel? with this loop you don't get that. i also have to pick my planes up to hang them in my hanger, they use to drip on me as i don't drain the tanks after flying. so for me it has lots of uses...

Krayzc-RCU,
Just asking your opinion. I have noticed that some people have the servo arm pointing up toward the stab and some down away from the stab on the elevator servos. Which one has better geometry?
Just curious. I am about to rig out my Extra. Thanks.

RE: Fuel Tank In edge
I like to have my turnbuckle or servo arm rod and close to level as possible. I usually only run 1" arms on my elevator and this arm will still allow me to get 40 degrees of throw for 3d. Some flyers like more on their 3d rate so they will use the 1.25" arms. I usually come down 1" on the stab and adjust around the 1-1.25 hole on the elevator. it would seem you are going to have a longer arm between the servo arm and elevator clevis/nelson hardware to compensate for the arm being turned down. I think I have had to turn arms down if they are located so close to the stab that they would hit when asked to go to 3d rates. you can see on the bottom pictue i mod a G-trick to run elevator servo and i had to turn the arms down to keep my level appoarch.

The loop in the fuel line should go around the tank for true drip proof venting.
( see the pics below ) this way the fuel will not bleed off at any flight angle.

RE: Fuel Tank In edge
The servo arm pointing up toward the stab gives less clearance
when using the longer arms for the higher throws.
By pointing the arm down I get more travel before linkage bind.
( see pics below ) this gives the clearance for the 1.25" arms.
