Default What do you Mix on a Pizzaz?

I will be getting a havger 9 Pizzaz soon, I have a lot of research on this forum and found out some great things to make this an even better plane, Thank all of you who posted your Ideas ans responded to my e-mail.

Having said, that I would like to know what mixes are being used out there on the Pizzaz with a computer radio. I will have a Saito 72 in mine and will be using a Hitec Eclipse 7. Here are some mixes I know of so far:

up elevator+down flaperons=tight loops

up elevator +up flaperons=Brakes ie slow landing

rudder to elevator and alerons=true yaw and good knife edge

I would like know what mixes you have tried and what they did, and if using an Eclipse how they were programed.

Thanks in advance

I mix so that I get right aileron with either right or left rudder. Helps stop rolling when hovering. Just make sure it's on a switch and that you turn it of for other maneuvers like landing. Actually with good fast digital servos you wouldn't need or want this mix.
Other than that I only use flapperons coupled to elevator..

so right rudder to right aleron and left rudder to left aleron helps to hover? Great! What engine are you using?

NO! left or right rudder input gets right aileron. I know it's crazy but with my slow cheap servos it helps keep the plane from rolling left all the time. I'm currently using a Sato 72 but I've also had a YS63 and a TT54. The TT54 wasn't enough for vertical accel out of a hover. Even though the YS produced about 600 more RPM on the ground I could hardly tell the difference between it and the Sato in the air. Both turning 13/6 APC's which was the best of the props I tried for vertical accel.
There is a fare amount of roll and pitch coupling in knife edge if you lean on the rudder too hard. If your easy on the rudder it doesn't couple much. I found the coupling got less when I got the CG back to about 4 3/4 inchs.
I live with it and haven't tried to program it out yet.

what "cheep" servos are you using? I was thinking about Hitec servos a HS425BB on the alerons, HS605 on the rudder(with pull-pull) and 2 HS 85mg on the elevator halves(mounted in the rear) and a HS 81 for the throttle. there specs can be found at http://www.hitecrcd.com

also how long does the Saito 72 run on the included 8oz tank. I have heard bad things about Hanger 9 tanks, I plan on installing a Sullivan rst-10oz

I use the included 8 oz tank and haven't had a problem with it even when I had the YS63 in the plane.
I fly for 10 minutes not including taxi out and taxi in. I use a timer. I normally come back with the tank 30% to 40% full and I use full throttle quite a bit.
I'll check what servos I have. I know they are a mix of Hitec and airtronics.
By cheap I mean not the new digitals. The problem is getting the rudder and aileron speeds matched and fast. You can't compensate for airplane movement untill it moves. If the controls aren't real fast you are always too late.

I am using HS81MGs for each elevator half and one for each aileron. I have a 425BB with pull pull on rudder. And a HS 81 on throttle. I use a 1000mil 6v battery and things get done nicely. The only thing I don't like with this set up is the exhaust residue from the TTpro46 on the rt. elevator servo.

It seems to hold the knife edge OK. I have only tried it once. Too scary for me I use HS 81MGs on the ailerons.

the picks look good clean install I can't wait to get mine started, do you have any problems with the HS 81mg's not consistantly centering? How hard/easy was it to set up the pull-pull. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but are the elevator servos directly across from each other or are they poffset because of fuseladge width. How did you beef-up the fuseladge to support the elevator servos? With only two screws holding the HS 81mg's do you ever have problems with them moving or getting loose?

Thanks for the pics and replies I'll post some picks when I finish mine, time is tight so It will be a little while

Thanks again

The 81s are good , they seem to plenty of power and center OK and they took some abuse. They where in my first PIZZA when It spun into the ground. Spactacular crash (DUMB THUMB).
The elevator servos set right across from each other and lay flat right under the leading edge of the horizontal, up against the fuse. No beef up of the fuse was needed.I made little bass wood standoff mounts for the servos. painted them black. peeled up and cut off just enough covering to epoxy the standoffs in place.
The pull pull rudder waas easy. I use Sullivan's products here. They make those niffity 2/56 eyebolts and that is some kind of neet kevlor or something for cord. Any way it is so simple to set up you mearly push the string thru the shrink tube, then thru the eyebolt, back thru the heat shrink. Then shrink the heat shrink. You wll notice that you can still pull the kevlar line a little to adjust the heat shrink and set perfect line lenghts. Now when you have all 4 ends made up and adjusted the way you like them then you can go back and put 1 (ONE ONLY) drop of thin CA at each end of the heat shrik then step back and marvel at your neet works. And it won't break or come loose.

The basswood blocks for the rear of the servo is epoxied to the fuse side and the horizontal bottom. The basswood block for the front of the servo is epoxied only to the bottom of the horizontal, because of the wire coming out. It works fine. On my first PIZZA that flew into a ground shaking wreck, I had the elevator servos. servo taped to the bottom of the horizontal. Even after the wreck it was found that the servo taped servos were in place and still working fine except one had the arm broke off and other didn't hava a surface to wave anymore.

sounds good! I am going to pick mine up in a couple of weeks hopefully. Did you run your HS85's on seperate channels or on a y?

I have been running a Y but I am going to change it to separate channels. I have a 7 channel receiver in it now but I just got a new 8 so I will be changing soon.

You can have two aileron servos (flaperons) and use dual elevator servos on sepperate channels with as little as a 6 channel RX. You use flaperon mixing for the ailerons (ch 1 &6), and use a pmix for the elevators slaving 5 to channel 2.
