Default certified dope

I'm getting ready to use butyrate dope from certified products to dope 5 momme silk. I'm new to this product, though i've covered many planes in sig dope. Can anyone suggest how much to dilute the dope to get it to sig-like thickness?...Is it compatable with randolph's?....is it as fuelproof as randolphs?

any suggestions as to the proticol for application would be appreciated

It is compatable and as fuelproof. I cannot answer the other question.

Bricklifter, I would suggest that you don't thin the dope. The thinner you get it, the more potential there is for the dope to soak through the silk and leave drips on the inside surface. The best bet is to brush the dope on with a light stroke so the dope penetrates enough to fill the weave but not so much that you get penetration and drips on the inside. Once you have brushed on 2 or 3 coats, you can thin it so it flows smoothly. After 2 or 3 brushed coats, the weave should be filled so you won't get drips. Typically, nitrate dope is used to fill the weave. It has more body and fills better than butyrate. Then follow with butyrate for the shrink capability and fuel proofing.

I haven't any experience with Certified Butyrate but I do use their Nitrate for glueing fabric on and sealing. I found that it is best not to thin it at all. It's pretty thin as it comes.

Anybody want a gallon of Certified Nitrate thinner??

Rich
