I'm new to rc Iwas wondering where I could find plans for a
1/8th scale rc 747and a 1/8th scale rc C-5 Gallixy, also where can I find engines. Should I use ducted fans or Turbines.

Default C-130 Hercules

Hi dman

No plans that I know of. Jet Hangar Hobbies has a 1/12 scale Hercules. Theres also a fellow whose biult a large scale 757 and did the mold and galssing work on the AMT Concorde.

If your new to rc, I'd start out a little smaller. Fewer $$ and easier to get going.

If I were you, I would go with turbines. Once you've heard a turbine, who wants to listen to a ducted fan. You only go around once, go first class all the way.

Default turbines it is/update

Ok I've desided that instead of 1/8th scale I'm going to make the planes 1/10 scale, But thats still a cuple huge planes. and due to my quest to make these planes as much to scale as possible so I was thinking 4 turbines for each plane. I'm not shure exactly how much they are going to weigh, but it's bound to be a lot. I was thinking of turbines with any where between 12-50 lbs of trust. What do you think ?

Dman, I think you might post your 1/10th scale 747, turbine powered project in the Jets section. These guys are quiet familiar with turbines in the 12-50 pound thrust range. They probably would have some really good advice for you.

Plans from scratch? how much is he charging (dont have to say it here) I've been pretty busy, but too bad a 727 (2 fan setup) or a DC-10 (2 fan setup) wouldnt interest you. the 727 is 80% done, and the DC-10 is about 60% done, Sweet 6 to 8ft spans

Default Giant scale plans

For plans of any plane ever built , experimental or otherwise write to John C. Fredriksen. PhD, 461 Loring Ave., Salem< MA. 01970. He has three volumes of books that list every plane built, listing manufacturer, and every plan available, model or full scale, I would think you would be interested in "Jet Age 46-96 they are or were a year ago $15 a volume

Default plan cost

I'm getting my plans from [email protected] he states, and I quote "The plan will cost you around 90.00 per plan (each airframe type).
This
will include one set of drawings with and extra set of formers and ribs
for
cutting up. I will retain ownership of the drawings for further
distribution. The 90.00 will only cover about 1/4 of my CAD time costs
so
that is why I ask to own the drawings when done. I must inform you that
I do
not guarantee flyability of the airframe. All the plans I currently
sell, I
have built and flown myself. Normally the first (prototype) airframe
built
from a set of plans need refining to some extent. If you have ever
built
from scratch before you already know this. I am just trying to be up
front
with you here. I will say that I have never had any complaints on any
of my
work. Just let me know what you want to do.
Sincerely,
Randy Charles
Alien Aircraft
937-382-2158"
I will try to keep everyone updated on the progress of the planes
and thank you to everyone for your input.

ok you charge 25-30 dollars. you do realize the size of a 1/10 scale c-5 Gallixy or a 1/10 scale Boeing 747? do you still charge $25-$30 for plans of this magnatude? if so what do I need to supply you...three scale views, specs, building materials?

I normally charge $25 to $30 for scale plans, 3 views, fuse sections, and wing ribs, but I guess seeing you want a GIANT PLANE (5 to 6 times larger than a normal plane) I wouldnt really think of getting that big, It would cost an easy $20 just to `try' to print something that big. Unless this guy has a 48" to 60" wide printer/plotter, you might get a half a fuse former on 1 sheet

I personally think you may get plans for $90 from your friend, but the rest is gonna cost bigtime, unless its an inflatable blimp with wings!

I think you mentioned you were new to R/C, but unless you won the lottery, or just have about $3000 to burn for only 2 real jet motors, (you either get 4, or have 2 dummy nacelles) I'd seriously reconsider! Have you priced the equipment yet? Have any idea (with your plans) what its gonna take to put it together?

Hope you have a small warehouse to do this in, cause a double garage aint gonna cut it

Dear Aircad,
You right the planes are going to take a hole lot of money and space to build, but I currently own 2,100 acres of land so I think I can find some where to build it ( I have a large farm shead). I also plan on making this a very, very long term project to defuse the cost, in fact I'll probabbly be a senior member long, long before there done.

TO Everyone whose interested in this project; I will post progress reports, and pics when the planes are done.
