Pirate 33% Extra 260 - 3W-240 too much?
I have a Pirate 33% Extra 260 which is powered by a 3W-70 twin.
I am just the tiniest bit curious... Has anyone tried putting a 3W-140 twin in a plane of this size?
Would this be ridiculous, stupid and insane or is this common for the those that dare to 3D the large birds? :stupid:

A 3W 140 is way to much of a motor in my opinion for this plane. I use a DA 100 for this plane and it should be perfect. Dave von Linswo(sp)? had a da 100 in a fiberclassics and could still hover the plane so i think that a 100 will be plenty.

I just wanted the RCU voice of reason to bring me back to earth.
My 33% will hover with the 3W-70 twin right now and the vertical is unlimited.
Please see my question in the warbird section. I originally had planned to put the 3W140 into a 98" Zeroli P-51 that weighs about 32lbs. I only recently realized that the twin cylinders would stick out both sides of the cowl! :stupid: (its the little things that get overlooked!)
The engine weighs 7.5 lbs so its not far out of line when compared to a large single.

You're joking about the 3w-240..right? The engine weighs about 15lbs and puts out somewhere in the neighborhood of 140lbs of thrust. I would think that something in the 80-100cc range would be adequate for your airplane.

Actually, it weighs 7.5 lbs, but yes, a 100cc would be more in line with the norm.
I know a fellow that has a .40 sized stick and put a YS 1.20 on it. Though it is said to the be stick from hell (meant in a nice way), he has a new YS 1.40 that will soon replace the 1.20. So, that is why I ask regarding the 140cc engine... As outlandish as it may first appear, some things work out well.
