Default BVM Mig 15 nose wheel

Does anyone sell a wheel that can replace the cheesy looking plastic one that comes with the kit ?

I flew my Mig yeterday ( flight # 2 ). Awesome bird but that nose wheel just doesn't cut it for me, any ideas out there ?

Johnny, let me know what you find out, I wouldn't mind replacing my as well. I have five flights on mine now, although I have had no problems with the wheel, it would be nice to have something a little "better looking" to put on this beautiful machine.

Have you ever seen what the nose wheel looks like on a real MIG-15 or 17.. what BV supplied is closer than anything else I've seen produced in the modeling industry. Keep in mind orginially this airplane was designed to fly off of grass / dirt / muddy fields!

I 100% agree with you Lee.

I'm not flying off grass nor going to war or anything like that with this particular Jet . I just want to know if anyone out there makes something that looks better that's all. There isn't enough lines here for me to say how happy I am with my Mig-15, but the nose wheel is bugging me and it has got to go

Hi JH,
I have no answers for you but my friend Kevin Marks just started flying his BVM Mig and he loves it. Not sure why but the afs version seems to be a better handling jet, especially on landings. Good luck with it.

hi Vin, I think you are wrong , I have flown the AFS and the previous version and there's absolutely no difference whatsoever. AFS is just less work for builders and its a bit stronger on the gear section, that can be fixed by adding carbon to the gear section to the older version. I test flew 2 of them one being an AFS and there was NO ground / air handling difference whatsoever between the 2 aside from one having a gyro [:'(] and more thrust than the other.

Just my $0.02

Now back to the nose wheel ...........

Actually, BV told me that's why he used that wheel - its closer looking to the real Mig nosewheel than anything else out there, so he used it. I see Johnny's point though. Depending on which photo you look at, the Composite ARF nose wheel hub may be better looking and might not fit too bad...

Hi Bob,

I tried that wheel as I have a set of CARF. That nose wheel is bigger than BVM's and it doesnt clear when you pull the gear unless you cut ( not an option). I would love to have something in metal that I can paint black but the same size as the current wheel ( kinda hard to find ).

Johnny,

Check with Tad at GWM. I have his scale Mig-17 and the Mig-21 and the L/G is very scale. I'm not sure what the BVM nose wheel size is but chances are that Tad already has them - if not he can make them.

Hope this helps.

Johnny,
I was like you that I thought a $10,000 model jet needed a nose wheel that cost more than $2.99. I then was able to put it beside the full scale version and then I changed my mind. BTW the model still flies but the full scale met its demise on the way to an airshow in Va.
Good luck finding an expensive replacement that fits and looks better.

Jay Smullen

Its not about having an expensive pimped up wheel on the Jet Jay I just want a metal wheel vs plastic.

Glennis has one for the BVM Mig-15, but get your wallet out. It is $125 bucks just for the front wheel, no brake.

Actually, I chose the Dubro wheel for the BVM Mig 15 (not BV). It is VERY close to scale for Migs MFG in many places (not all wheels and struts are the same on the real ones). It is a relatively low pressure tire design. (Good enough to win the scale masters with).
Of course, you are free to modify the plane to your preference.
Enjoy,
David

Ah, the Mig is David's design and what he's saying is that he originally chose that nose wheel for the design - before it became a BVM product...

To be honest, when I talked to BV about it, he never claimed credit for the original choice, he just said that he'd never seen anything that was more scale looking than that wheel so he continued to include that one in the kit...

Anybody got a picture of the Glennis nose wheel?

The only thing that would make it look more scale would be a little mud on it

Yea, that is a better looking nose wheel. $125 isn't cheap though. Who is brand "B"???

From the Glennis website:

Feature Scale Nose wheel, not just a generic Dubro or Sullivan as with Brand 'B' jet wheels

An alternative for those in search of a metal 3" nosewheel might be the Trim 3" nosewheels. The 3" nosewheels come with either solid aluminum hub or with a six hole pattern. It's not scale, but might fit the bill for what some of you are looking for. They are both in stock.

Here's the link for the nosewheel with solid hub:

and the link for the wheel with a six hole pattern:
