Default Gyro Troubles ?????

I Just got My DF V and I did what the good book said and held it to test the gyros and The right and left movement nothing happens and with front to back movement I can feel the resistance .

So I shut it off and went through the start up again and still the same .... The green eyes flashed for a bit and then stayed on at one point .... soo?????????????

Okay, it sounds like you may not have set the level calibration for the gyros.

First, turn on your Tx with all trims centered and the throttle down.

If you are using Ti (outdoors only) and preferrably under clear or partly cloudy skies day or night, hold the DF away from your body with the LEDs pointing straight up.

Switch the power on without changing the vertical position of the LEDs and don't let the sensors dectect your finger heat. At times when I only got one LED, I have actually made the other LED turn on and off by moving my finger in front of and away from the rear sensor(s). So, the sensors can indicate perfect Ti if your body heat is detected which is a false positive and can cause erratic flight characteristics. Try it sometime.

Make sure at least one LED is lit (half-assed Ti ) for flying with some instability or two LEDs for very stable flight!

Still maintaining the the LEDs vertically, once you see if it's one or two LEDs, press the arm button. You can then set the DF on LEVEL ground to set the gyros for level calibration. Setting a LEVEL with Ti is critical!!

Once on level ground, set the level by holding the left stick down & to the right. Both LEDs should alternately flash rapidly. Do this for 3 seconds and release the stick. Wait for both LEDs to return solid to confirm that gyro level calibration has been set.

You should now be ready for flight, stable or not so stable, depending on how many LEDs lit during Ti calibration.

Try this procedure and let us know what happens.

Did you buy this DF brand new and what transmitter are you using? Are you sure the Ti on/off switch on the transmitter is not on while inside? Having Ti on/uncalibrated or on/uncalibrated and inside will cause erratic behavior.

Do the left and right rotors spin at all or just at low RPMs. I didn't think there would be any reistance without Ti activated because it maintains level by automatically constantly adjusting motor RPM. You can definitely feel that when holding it with Ti on. Try going outside and following those Ti setup instructions exactly and try doing that with Ti activated. Hold it in your hand while giving it a 1/4 throttle and see if you don't feel resistance in every axis.

Ok in or out side the left and right no resistance on or off no resistance left or right .. Will not even want to lift off .. For the most part it just wants to move left ..
The DF V is brand new and the controler it came with has no Ti switch .

Yep, that's true. They hold that last command until you change it. I assumed you were using Ti at first, sorry. I don't see how anyone flies without it. I have lot's of respect for those that can fly smooth inside or out without Ti!

What kind of transmitter is it? It's possible that the set screws that control the sesitivity of all controls need adjustment. See if they are at 100%.

holding the df in my hand by the base and running at about half throttle, then roll, pitch and yaw the df, I can only hear and feel the front and back rotors trying to resist my hand movements.
The Transmiter is a 4 chan Futaba.. [:@]

Damn, I don't know what else to tell you. If it's not the transmitter set screws, it sounds like you may indeed have a gyro issue. Did you at least try it outside with Ti for the heck of it?

I know what you mean!!!! They should be open tomorrow but of course nothing can ship. Let me say this. Just give them a chance to replace the damn thing and see what it's like to fly one that works properly. You won't regret it! It is truly an incredible experience and is easy to fly when everything functions as it should.

Yep. I wanted to drop kick that son of a ***** the first day and say to hell with it but it was user error, not the helo. [:@] I was trying too much too soon. As soon as I slowed down and tried things in a more controlled approach I was blown away with the results. Please do read and follow those links that I sent you and follow them exactly and you shouldn't have any piloting issues.

Default RE: Gyro Troubles ?????

went searching and I found this post ...

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the double post but this thread seems to be the most read by Draganflyer owners! I`ve had my Draganflyer for almost two weeks now and have had fun but "very limited success" in getting it to hover for more than a few seconds without flipping over! I decided to do a " Gyro Test" by setting the Draganflyer at half throttle and then rotating the Draganflyer from front to back and then side to side. I found out something very interesting and I just don`t know if it`s supposed to be this way or if I have a Gyro problem! When I go front to back, I get a very strong feeling that the gyro is working as it is supposed to. However, when I go side to side, I don`t notice near the gyro effect as I do going front to back! Also don`t "hear" as big a difference as I do from going front to back. Is this how it`s designed to enhance handling or do I have a problem? If any of you Draganflyer`s could duplicate this test and tell me how your Draganflyer reacts, I would be forever grateful. I just need to know if it`s pilot or product error?
Thanks again,
Nike25
Same **** is happening with me ..
So this is how he solved his problem ....
I just got my circuit board back from Spectrolutions yesterday. All I can say is "OH MY GOD!" what a difference trying to fly this with working gyros! I still need lots of practice but at least it doesn`t flip upside down everytime I try flying it! I practiced a little last night and joined the "break a nylon screw club." Fortunately it came out easily and I was able to buy some spares at the local hobby shop.
I am totally impressed with the super quick service from Mike at Spectrolutions! I sent the board out Monday afternoon using express mail and I had it back to my house Thursday morning with a set of complimentary rotors! Also found out that he sells the rotor blades for $20 a set. They`re not as "finished" as the ones from Draganflyer but a little light sanding and they`re ready to go. Cant wait to get home from work and practice my hovering skills!

Yep, I remember seeing those when reading every one of those 1600 posts! [:@] You also might want to call Mike at Spectro. He is great to talk to and is where you will end up sending the board to anyway to get it fixed or replaced. Let us know what happens.

Sounds like the gyros as I had the same thing happen to me. Mine started acting up with less than 10 hours on it but was not covered under warranty as RC Toys did not respond (email) as if it was under warranty. They don't imply any warrantly and state once it leaves the factory, and everythig is operable, any problems encountered are your own. I sent mine to Spectro and they repaired it promptly for 55.00. Keep in mind there were no crashes contributing to this malfunction of the gyro. I am now hesitant to even fly this if every 10 hours I have to fork out 55.00.

I contacted DF in Saskatoon and they are replacing my main board with no problems ... I just recived mine and it did not work that day so maybe that is why the are making it right for me ...
I am happy about that ... I hope you can contact them and get a credit back for your troubles too.............

I just had same problem after rebuilding my DF5.NO crash, just cleaning things up.It was working fine until I messed with it.After putting everything back together .I tried it out in basement.Same results It would not lift off and motors ran erratically on the roll axis.Problem? One of the motors was soldered in reverse.Drives gyro crazy .Check your wiring on motors.

I did that once when I got in a hurry while replacing a motor mount. It just leaned to one side and obviously wouldn't lift off.

motors have a red dot next to one of the solder lugs on motor.your supposed to solder colored wire to red dot and black wire to other one.If you reverse them on one motor that motor will run backward resulting in no lift from that side and gyro will not be able to stabilize craft.the props will speed up and slow down pretty much on their own trying to stabilize .If you ever flew a conventional heli it would be like installing gyro in reverse.kind of...Anyway,check motor connections.
