I am presently building two of these planes. Where are you planning on placing your fuel tank? In the wing or on the fuselage? These are the first profiles I have built. I thought mounting the wing would have been easier then conventional fuses, but more of a pain then expected. I have only mounted one, so maybe the second plane will be easier.

Hi Toyking23. This is my second Edge. I put a 6oz tank on the fuse side opposite the engine using cup hooks. It worked great. Jim

Thanks, I am looking forward to me and my son flying these 2 planes at the same time, hovering side by side. Now let's hope we don't crash at the same time, also. :-)

She looks great!!! I just boned up the fuse on my OMP last night. What are you going to use for power? I'm still uncertain on what is "enough" power.

Cool covering scheme. Here's a pic of my OMP Edge. I started working on it 10 days ago. I'm going to us a 50SX with Mac's black muffler.

Default Little Edge

I'm going to use an OS 50. In Denver at 6000 FT I need all the power I can get.
I did take the giant OMP Edge out today with the Moki 2.10 had a great time. Did a big outside loop and tapped the rudder on the ground at the bottom of the loop. Jim

For anybody who hasn't seen Jimmy fly an Edge you are in for a real treat! He is way too humble to admit but he was the 1987 National Masters Champ! His skills as a pattern flyer stand him in good stead with a fun fly plane. Ask him about his famous outside loop with a rudder touch, pretty fun to watch!
Building quick is another thing he is good at, he is building a Giant Edge for me, should be done in a couple of weeks, right Jim?

Two gorgeous planes! If anyone says that profile planes are ugly, they deserve to be bent over and KICKED! But there REAL beauty is in the air. Man, it doesn't get much better than this!

Thanks for the kind replies. I've got it just about finished now. Weighs exactly 4 lbs. Balanced at 1 7/8" behind the spar with no additional weight. At 4Lbs. it should be a monster with the 50SX.

Hey guys, here's my Edge. It's my second kit/covering job so it's ugly but hey, it's just a profile. Power will be an Irvine .53 with 12x4 wood prop. Should be awesome.

They say there's only one way to learn to build and cover. And thats to do it yourself.

Are these planes as good as they say they are? I ordered one of these last week and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Has anyone tried a OS 46 SF on one of these. I am planning on stripping my Sig Fazer to outfit this one.

Remember a landing is nothing more than a controlled crash!

Default Great flying 540!!!

grind2tenths,
I have the OMP Giant Edge 540 and it's a keeper! IT FLIES A LITTLE EASIER THAN THE 40 SIZE.

There are several of the 40 size OMP Edge 540's at our Club Field. 2 of them have 4 strokes.
We will have a couple of the 40 size OMP's soon to come that will have the 46FX's swinging the Zinger 12x4 wood props.
Keep it light and your SF will be fine. I would suggest using light servos like the Hitec 225BB's for the surfaces and a Hitec HS 81 on throttle. 6 ounces of fuel would be plenty.

grind.....I gotta tell ya. I had 3 fazers and loved them. They do some wild manuvers BUT....... comparing the fazer to the 540 is like comparing a camero to a vett. Yes the 540 is THAT much better. The 540 is so much more refined, lighter and agile. If you fly normal you prob wont see too much of a diff but when you start banging sticks..... Thats where the 540 shines.

Pin wheels...Waterfalls so tight that you dont lose any alt... Climbing flat spins. Man even the normal loops are about the size of the wing span. The tail has soooo much authority that you reall can do just about any thing you want. The rudder has about twice the control of the fazer on a good day.

Ok thats enough.

enjoy

Default Almost 20 flights on mine so far!!

This is my first ever FF.
It's been flying for a bit over a week right now.
I have seen other FFs fly around......Fasers, ThunderTigers, Magic, several scratch built contraptions, and recently some Goldbergs Ex330s.
After i got over the shock of how this plane flies (it took me 2-3 flights) I started coming down with it.
I started trying all the moves I read about in RCU. The thing started doing waterfalls while I was trying to do tight loops.
:spinnyeye
I tried some knife edge into the wind and the thing KE looped on me inside 1 wingspan :bananahea

I tried some KE into the wind (just a bit of rudder this time) and the thing started doing a KE harrier. I reduced the throttle a bit and it started loosing alt while in KE. I suppose that's a KE elevator??

I tried an 180 with just the rudder and the thing came back in less than a wingspan.

I tried some harriers and you barely need elevator to hold them. It's more on the prop than on the elevator.
Meanwhile, people looking at me flying this thing, have their jaw dislocated
They know me, they know that I'm more or less a newbie with just a year experience in the hobby. But they haven't seen this thing fly before

I'm thinking OMP needs to issue some decals with their logo or web address or something cause I'm getting tired of answering questions about this thing

Right now I'm cursing at the weather. (it's been raining/snowing/sleet since the 1st) The field will be a mess for the weekend but I'm hoping for just a couple of feet of non flooded grass so I can take off. Landings are a non issue with this thing. I just have to make sure I don't touch down anywhere that's too deep :drowning:

I'm working on my flat spins. I can hover them but i can't make them go up yet. I'll try relaxing the rudder and/or elevator and see if that will do it.

I'm trying to decide if I need a backup. Sooner or later I'll mess up low I know or maybe the 225s on the tail will let go. Already I lost the rudder one, although I think the extra long arm had something to do with it :stupid:

Do you guys see a pattern here yet?? I'm happy as a clam with this thing

PS: What exactly is a Pin wheel??
