drop in engine for jato
i was planning on ordering a new engine for my christmas wheter my engine was already shot or not by then, but i just don't think i want a traxxas engine again. i dunno if its just the trx 2.5 or all of their engines, but i can't get it to hold a lsn tune for nothing. I'm not talking about day to day for i know the weather changes, i'm talking about every 10 - 15 mins the lsn is out of tune. is the trx 2.5r engine any better? i dunno if i want the power of the 3.3.
so i hear the O.S. engines are pretty good, so what is a drop in motor for the jato, that has the same amount of power as the trx 2.5 or a little more, but not any less. or should i just try the trx 2.5r. i wouldnt' mine getting the 3.3 if it holds a tune better, but i wanna know if it has 2 much power for my stock jato, as like stripping spur gears or other stuff i don't know about???

RE: drop in engine for jato
I do not think the .18tm is a direct drop in for the jato. I know that it's a direct drop in for the revo and t-maxx but I think there is at least a little modding that has to be done. But I may be wrong though. The TM has a lot of power but you would go through tires like there's no tommorow. Plus with that kind of power you would have to make the drivetrain bullet proof. The .18cvr would be a good choice. This has more power then the 2.5r and I am willing to say that it has more power then the 3.3 has. It wont cost you an arm and a leg like some others may. It has plenty of torque to do pretty good wheelies and to flip it on it's lid if you want it to.

RE: drop in engine for jato
so is this the one i would need with the slide valve carb? and this is drop in engine without any mods??? also i guess my ezstart won't fit on it will it?? and if it doesn't i don't see it having a pullstart cord on it. so how do you start it?? and does the stock muffler on a jato connect to it?

can't believe its only $80, why do they sale it so cheap??

Yeah thats the one you need. At least for the carb way. I do not know about the shaft though maybe someone else can chime in on this.
I would definately buy that up. They must be having a sale or something because it's usually $109 so I would definately buy it. If I hade money to spend I would pick up 1 or 2 myself. But as I do not have the money I cant. But that is an excelent buy for that money.

"Is it as good as the TM" ---- It all depends on what you mean as being good.
If your talking about the pwer the TM has more power then the CVR does. If your talking about tunability, reliability, and it holding that tune then yes. The CVR is very easy to tune, holds that tune, and is very reliable. But it does not have the power as the TM does.
The TM was designed for use with monster trucks specifically the Revo and T-Maxx. Thats why it will except the ez-start and is a direct drop in for the Revo and T-Maxx. The CVR still has a ton of power, I'm even willing to say that it has more power then the 3.3 does. It was designed more for use with the St's and will over power any St thats out right now. Right now I can do wheelies at any time I want with my .18CVR. And have switched fuels on it and it's still running awesome with ton's of power and im an gallon number 3 3/4. So almost 4 gallons and no trouble with it as of yet.
The cvr will roast the tires off of the jato pretty good. And yo shouldnt have to bullet proof you drive train while doing this either. Even if your horrible at tunning you should be able to tune the CVR. The CVR is all but idiot proof when it comes to tuning. As long as you keep a clean air filter on it and have a fuel filter, use a good quality fuel and make sure not to lean on it to hard (another words dont run it lean) and it should be good for several gallons.
If you have any more question just get back to me. I hope this has helped.
