It can but I would suggest against it. Using wd-40 can dry out your o ring and things of that nature and can cause air leaks to occure. You can use air tool oil if you have some but as I said before would suggest against wd-40. Using it once or twice is ok but long term use can lead to problem's down the road.

I personally never used wd40 in any of my RCs. I have helped a neighbor free up his gummed up TRX2.5 engine by shooting wd40 into the bearings to help dilute the gum-up (he never used any sort of afterrun in his 4-tec and had his car stored over the winter with nitro fuel still sitting in the engine, it was'nt pretty).

If I am not mistake and if you look in your manual most other then Traxxas say not to use WD 40 as after run oil and most of your engine manufactures say the same. I personally will not take a chance and real after run oil is not expensive so why take a chance with a $100 plus engine over a $3 bottle of after run oil?

Take if for what you want but this is off HPI web site.

Engine - The powerplant of the Nitro car and most of its weight. The inside of the engine should be checked for excessive wear by an experienced Nitro racer every 2 gallons of fuel or so (or 100 hours of running time on the engine). You may have to put in a new piston and sleeve, but after that the engine will run like new! You also should use After Run at the end of each day's running. Do NOT use WD-40 on the inside of your engine! After Run will absorb the water in the engine, not just displace it. Just follow the directions on the After Run bottle.

If you are just looking for a cheap alternative to buying real afterrun oil, I have heard that Marvel Mystery Oil works the same and is better than WD-40. I know it's a better lubricant than WD-40, but I am not sure how it does at dispersing moisture like afterrun oil does.

If you are going to use Marvel Mystery oil make sure you use the air tool oil and not the other. Yes there is more then one kind. WD 40 and others only dissipates the moister and after run oil absorbs moister big difference. I find it hard to believe people with spend the money they do on and RC vehicle, then spend $20 to $30 a gallon for fuel and want to scrimp on a $3 bottle of after run oil.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] O well run what ever you want.

Homebrew Afterrun Oil:

1 Part 10W30 Motor Oil
1 Part Automatic Transmission Fluid (Mercon3/Dexron5/ATF-4)

Or if you prefer a lighter mixture, strait Marvel Mystery Oil with a little 3-in-One

I run 2 stroke oil though my enignes...
I have a 20lt bottle of it and have a fuel tube conected to the end of it.
I put the fuel tube on the fuel inlet on the eninge, take the glow plug out and
turn the enigne over.
That way it cleans the carby, Frunt berrings, every thing...So the Next time
you go start it, BRmmm, Starts esay.

If you read the manual like on OS engines it tells you not to run after run oil through the carburetor (fuel nippel) as it can affect the O-rings in it but what ever works for you.

46u... give up. You've given the warnings and you even gave an example to back it up. What else can you do?

I don't understand it either, but it's not my truck. If it works then more power to them...

You are right about not trying in on my engines, as I know better. I do not have to stick my hand in a fire to find out it will burn me either. If it makes you happy go for I am not stopping you. Let us know how it works out in the end.

I agree with Chronic good luck with it.

I found the ingrediants on a yahoo answers page....

"Main ingredients, from the material safety sheet are: 50% Stoddard solvent (mineral spirits), 25% Liquified petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant), 15+% Mineral Oil (light lubricating oil), and 10-% Inert ingredients"

I'd stick to the after run oil
