ANTENA WIRE
My antena wire just broke on my new savage x in the middle. The hobby store said i cant buy just the wire and I cant use regular copper wire? They said I need to solder the old wire or buy a new reciever for 60bucks. Can I not just use regular copper wire if the length and guage is the same?

RE: ANTENA WIRE
LMAO@your lhs.
Futaba sells receiver antenna wire, your LHS sucks.

in fact, I bought it from MY lhs. but no, using regular wire is not recommended.

RE: ANTENA WIRE
Yeah as far as i know you shouldnt use solid copper wire, the antenea wire is a bunch of smaller wires. Im not sure what the reasons are for not using solid wire but knowing not to use it is good enough for me.

Can you solder? You'll need to take your reciever apart, unsolder the existing wire and resolder the new one in. It will be jut like new - as long as you can solder that is.
For the record, The antenna wire is copper. It's just stranded copper not one solid wire. The reason that you don't use a solid wire is that a single wire is too brittle and would break easily.

RE: ANTENA WIRE
Hey magictrev
After you get the wire in the mail, take it down to your
local hobby shop and show it to them. Show them the
receipt also, then tell them to kiss your *****.
Now if you like your LHS then don't do that. I have a good hobby
shop here in NJ that I go to.

the Futaba wire is fine, i use it in my Novak AND futaba receivers with great success
good luck man, and get yourself a soldering iron...the grand total should be around $15, which is FAR cheaper than the receiver
BTW-measure both your remaining pieces of wire and cut one of the same length from the wire i linked you to. there should be enough wire there to make 2 antennas

RE: ANTENA WIRE
I only had this problem one time and went to my local electronics store with the piece of wire that broke off. They matched it up with a piece of scrap they had and gave it to me for free. Worked just fine till I change radio systems.
