Default pullstart or no?

hey guys,i have nothing but trouble with the wiring on my revo and am thinking about getting a ps for it.after removing the glow plug wire from the glow plug a few times the spring always gets stretched out and the connections on the starter seem to brake all the time.should i remove it all and just go with a pullstart?

I'm sure you'll get a lot of people saying go with a ps. I'm not one of them. I absolutely love the ez-start system. IMO, it is by far the easiest and most convient starting method out there - especially for the casual basher. A racer may be better served going with a ps or bump start.
Should you switch? Let me answer that with a question. Are you a very good tuner? If not a ps will kill you and you'll end up with a hand full of blisters and hateng it. And lastly, a ps is not perfect, no system is. PS's have their own set of problems and issues so if you do decide to go that way, don't expect miracales

I use the RDlogics starter box with a 12v Battery jump assist with connectors. This set up gives me an endless supply of power for those days when my motor wants to be finicky. You can get the 12v jump system and connectors at any auto store for around $40.

I'm kind of a starter box guy. I pulled the TRX 2.5R and easy start out as soon as my REVO came out of the box. Some people I bash with swear buy the EZ-Start system, but when they have trouble starting their REVO they come over and use my starter box. They don't have to lug as much stuff as me to the park and I like to watch the REVO started with the EZ-Start. It looks easy. as far as the glow starter part I don't know I see my buddies using a NICAD glow starter. Maybe they had problems with it and removed it. All I ca say is go with a ROTO start or starter box. You will get spoiled quick.

Oh! The other thing I see is they removed all the wiring and just take a 6 cell with harness removed and touch the terminals on the EZ-Start motor. I guess most of the EZ-Start falls apart anyway.

I had a T-Maxx with an EZ Start, but then I swapped it out for a pull start since the EZ Start was just more stuff to lug around, and one more thing to die. I had the problem where when the battery got low, it would not get the plug hot enough to fire. As long as the engine is primed and such, if the engine doesn't start within the first 3-5 pulls, then you know something is up, and I see it better than grinding the engine by spinning it with a EZ Start or Rotostart. I since sold my T-Maxx, but I do have a Savage with a Mach .26, and it starts on the first pull, no matter what the weather. The only disadvantage I've seen to using a pullstart is that the pullstart cord can break from becoming too fuel soaked when oil and fuel leak out around from the one way bearing into the pullstarter. I just pull the rope out to almost its full length and wipe it down with a cloth every few runs. Takes less than 30 seconds to do, and I haven't broken a cord in half a year.

One thing that I found to cause difficult first starts is, ironically enough, after run oil. It tends to gum up the engine if it sits for a few months, and even if its only overnight, then you have to be sure to flush all of it out (by priming about a dozen times then unscrewing the glow plug and priming a few more times till all of it drips out) of the engine before attempting to start it. I never used after run oil in my planes, and I've seen glow fuel plane engines that are 20 years old and have sat for 15 or more years without after run oil, and they haven't rusted or anything, and still run fine. So, I just burn up all the residual fuel left in the engine at the end of the day, put the piston to bottom down center, and I'm done. Never had a problem.

tune it right and it will start within 2 pulls like mine. i didn't like haveing to carry that starter for the ez-start, i would put it in my pocket and run to flip my truck back over and i get to my truck and my pants are around my knees!

Use a glow igniter in replacement for the blue wire. I am going to do that soon because of the blue wire getting chewed up.

I am on the fence with this one, my original MAXX I took the ez start off and went to PS and it has been like that for a few years, no problem. I have recently picked up 2 more tmaxxs and boy am I enjoying the ezstart again. I do use a seperate glow ignitor tho, not the blue wire. Also, I have broken in 2 BB engines recently, both PS, which really made me want the ez start. i am just waiting on the second one to hit about a gallon and then it will get a roto start on it.

i put on an os.18tm and put on the pull start cause i was sick of having the dead battery on my ez start all the time. when it was working i loved it but as long as i keep the motors tuned, pull start is the way for me. i will say though breaking in a motor is a real pain with the pull start.
