Because they can be.....trust me....you and I might think it's crazy, but some people out there are buying these things WITHOUT flinching! And, of course, the manufacturer/dealers LOVE it. If nobody bought them......they would be cheap....in a hurry. Of course, they might not make em anymore after they sell out of stock, either. After all, you don't go into business....to go OUT of business.

Seriously, though, niche market items like that tend to be pretty pricey. You will often find that smaller volume and/or specialized manufacturers will charge considerably more for their products. For the money, though, I'd much rather have the 5B and a gigantic pile of extra parts and hop-ups.

I'm not totally sure why you think that's a big deal?
We spend $400 - $600 or more on the nitro trucks we buy then some of us dump hundreds and hundreds more into hop ups.
I mean I've got 4 MT's and not a one is totally stock. If I were to figure it up (which I won't because - well, just because) I'm sure I've got over 3 grand in just those four. And that doesn't count the cars, boats, planes and heli's I've got. If you want to see expensive check into .60 nitro powered helis. The radios for some of those run much more than our trucks do. Then you crash aand start all over.
Face it, it's an expensive hobby and we're all a bit nuts to spend what we do on what's basically a fancy kids toy.

I am more trying to figure out what is is about these cars that makes them so expensive. How durable are they? How fast do they go? How advanced are they? How are they compared to typical 1/10 RC's like traxxas, team losi, associated etc etc...

Forget that, look into .60 size electric heli's, $200+ per battery. Dont even get me started on .90 size gas/nitro/electric heli's, let alone scale heli's. Then theres always turbine powered jets ($$$).

Well for one look at their size, 1/5 scale. look at the size compared to the lady. Also, when you consider $25+ a gallon nitro fuel, that adds up versus 2 stroke gas/oil mix. They are super tough!!

I can see the one-upmanship coming already as that isn't good enough. Nooooooooooooo, ya gotta have some trick wheels on that puppy, some spinners and some slick dub's. Hydraulics? Killer sound system with the biggest sub-woofers that you can squeeze inder that Lexan. I see a project for Unique Whips!

maybe compared tothe fire hammer or monster buggy, but i think the fg's are pretty good. just my opinion.

I know a guy, that knows a guy, he has two fg monster truck, a beetle, and two FULLY hopped up savages, one 25 and one xss.
He also does airoplanes, he has bout 4 i think, and helis he has 2.

And the guy i actualy know, has an fg beetle, and does helis and planes

they also sell the most of them there also they have had other 1/5ths sitting there for mounths not being sold but yet they get new shipments of bajas 5+ every week.

Still doesn't prove they're the best. Just that Duratrax has spent a lot on advertising.
Personally, I don't know but IF the Duratrax one is the "best" then that doesn't say a lot for the others.....
