Needed more building space. Built out of 1.5" square tubing with 3/4" MDF and a replaceable 1/4 hard board on top. It also can be tooken apart if I need more room in the shop.

Nice table you got there flynte. How much did that puppy set ya back? I'm thinking about the same table top frame, but due to verrrry limited space i'm going to piano hinge it to a wall so it can lay flat against the wall when it's not in use. Bart(man)

How about topping it with a sheet of cold rolled steel and build using magnets instead of pins?

I really like your table. What size is it. It looks like it'd be just right. What kind of hardwood top did you use and will you lay something over that to stick your T-pins into?

It's 3.5' x 6'. The two shelves are MDF board which is a very dense particle board. On the top I also added a 1/4" hard board, same as peg board material that is coated with varathane to seal it. I was looking into finding some good cork board to lay over top for pinning, just haven't got that far yet.

Nice table Flynte! I'd like to build a table as well - What type of welder did you use (if at all) and what would you recommend for the beginner to purchase. Nothing heavy duty for me...

Used a mig welder for it. I have a Hobart 135 (Miller makes them). I think the model is 140 now. It's a great first welder and beyond.

Flynte, I got started on my first steel top table and am using magnets instead of pins, works great. Now I need some insight on where to look for a real piece of steel instead of this metal cabinet door ( too flimsy 1/16th) I've tried fabricators,etc. and no luck...I've even found a vendor off the Web. https://www.discountsteel.com/index.cfm/go/ but it seem kind of expensive, Got any ideas for sources?

When I built my other table, I got the metal through our shop, 4x8 x1/8" plate, for cost. It was about 235.00 for the sheet. Steel prices are absolutely crazy now. We get the steel from Westeel in Edmonton.
