you should be fine with the .40LA

I have a TT .42 on mine with a 11/5 prop and it is unlimited at half throttle.

I have a .46LA and had to use a 12x4 or 12.25x3.75 to get strong enough vertical for safe hovering.

You may want to experiment with different props, I don't think the 11x4 on a .40LA will be enough but try it first. My guess would be the 12x4.

Make sure the baffle is out.

To me, a 12x4 sounds a little too much for a 40LA. People are running 12x4's on the OS 50SX.

I agree with Wade. I am running 12x4s on my Webra 50 with a Mac header and tune pipe.

Kevin,
Any idea how the Webra 50 compares to the OS 50SX?

I used to have a Webra Speed 40, those are strong motors. You are talking quite a bit more juice than a 40LA!

Yeah I know but Kevin said he was running a 12-4 on his 50 and I was just thinking that was a bit small. My 40 swings a 12-4 with ease. Seems to me that a 50 would spin a 13-4 the same..........John

I think the 50 would turn a 13x4 pretty good. Guess it kind of depends on what type of flying you're doing. For hovering around I would rather have the 12x4 on a 50. I'd be a little concerned with overheating on the bigger prop in a sustained hover. I'm not saying it would but would be more of a chance. Throttle response should be better with the smaller prop too. Hey, I may be wrong about it all!

It all depends on the engine. I like 11.5x4's on my FX46's. They love the revs.

On my .46LA I use a 12x4 which is actually more prop than I use on a .46FX.

Bigger diameter = more thrust
More rpm = more thrust
Bigger diameter = less rpm

Do you go for more rpm or more diameter?

I found the only sure way to find the best prop is to try them all on each engine.

I found the larger diameter props even at reduced rpm give more thrust on the .46LA's and with a .40LA you'll have to go for all teh thrust you can get even if the engine spools slow.

I go for thrust. I could care less about RPM's except not to over rev an engine. I get more than enough thrust from my 46's and from my speed 40 with the 12-4. I was actually thinking about ordering a Webra 50 but if Kevin is only running 12-4's then I think I'll stick with my 40. I thought for sure the 50 would spin the heck out of a 13 or 14-4 prop.

From what I've seen most people like to run 10x4's on 32's, 11x4's on 46's, and 12x4's on 50's. As far as the bushing engines like the TT 42GP and the OS 46LA, it seems the 11x4 is the most preferred, with some people even running 10x4's. You'll get a faster spool-up if you prop these engines like this. Also, it seems that many people like a wood over an APC prop since the wood will spool-up faster. APC props are way heavier than the same size wood. Keep in mind I'm talking about hoverbatics here. Most people prefer instant transition with this type of flying. All I can say is experiment and go with what you like personally.
