NiMH batteries have a much smaller voltage peak compared to NiCads. If you are using a peak detection NiCad charger to charge NiMH's, it mightn't detect when the batteries are full. If the charger doesn't have a timer or heat detection the batteries will eventually vent or even explode.

You can use a NiMH charger to charge NiMHs and NiCads, but NOT the other way around.

Default RE: Charging NiMH batteries

question i am using a 6 cell 7.2 3600 nimh pack in my jet. i dont know alot about nimh . i am charging them and they peak out at 8.4 but go to 8.2 later on. a full charged pack will stay at 8.1 under a 1 amp load. nicads and nimh batterys dont hold there compacity like a lipo or ion. so where i am getting at is if i let this plane sit a week on a full charged nimh it will lose some compacity in that time correct? lipos dont. they stay where you charge them... if you can answer this would be great. just trying to learn here...pat
