Default Newb X,Y vs Z question (dont cha love it!!)

so i was gonna buy the Losi MRC.
http://www.ckrccrawlers.com/shop/ind...oducts_id=1075

its got a great radio (im comp to the other 2 here) its smaller (which is a pro and con i guess), i like how i can run it in like small indoor spaces, but its gots lots of plastic.

then i saw the 1/14th DTRX CC
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetai...DTXD18&click=3

its got dual motors, ally shocks (i think), more rugged (looking), and its a lil bit bigger, but still indoorable?

the Axial scorpion RTR kit is like $10-$20 more
http://www.ckrccrawlers.com/shop/ind...roducts_id=321

its 1/10th, but it seems the RTR aint like as hardy as the lil RTR's may be?

Id buy it like now, if i hadnt seen so much anti RTR axial posts everywhere.

im new to this, not (yet) into comp.s, but want to have me some good fun.

what do you guru's think i should do?

If youre really concerned about indoor running the MRC and DTX CC are good choices. At the moment the MRC has more upgrades and aftermarket items available. If you're concerned about plastic, theres metal or carbon fiber chassis available for the MRC. It also seems to be right in line with 1.9 (or whatever scale they are calling it) rules for competition (DTX is motor on axle which last I heard was prohibited for that scale in competition). You might want to double check that, I haven't followed it closely, but there was a discussion here about it. Personally, I could have fun with either one.

If you're going 2.2 the kit Axial or the ARTR are the way to go. The RTR version is more budget minded and is reflected in what you get for it. I like building kits so thats the way I'd lean. I think RTR takes something away from the hobby.

where are you going to be using it? indoors or out?

the Losi MRCs are nice but a bit small for some of the outdoor stuff. but can be made to do well. being a smaller unit working on them i understand is a PITA.

the duratrax is much the same, of lesser quality than the MRC, if your going with one of the 2, get the Losi.

the Axial rtr isnt too bad, but the Kit and the ARTR are a bit better overall. they also have the new SCX010. Scale 4x4 scaler. it looks like a great build on the 1.9 scale.

whre you going ot use it and whats your budget are my first 2 ?s. 3rd is what do you currently have for gear if anything? batteries, chargers, radio ect..... i expect not to much if your mentioning the radios in the RTRs.

i aint got nutin. lol.

so im going to kill the hobby and buy an RTR and repairgrade as i go

i have a RC18, and three 6cell nimh batteries.

i like the littleness of that because i can take it anywhere, and hide it places (like work) and also why the Losi MRC was appealing.

thing is, the basic axial AX10 is approx 10-15 bux more, and bigger = more like upgradeable and capable? but the down side is i dont think i could really jam it around inside.

i guess what im asking is reguardless of size,

WHICH is the best right out of the box?i the AXIAL, or the LOSI?

also, whats up with the 27t motor in the AX10 RTR?

shouldnt it be like a 55t?

does that motor suck?

both are pretty good out of the box. both will need batts, esc, motor (unless you buy the rtr axial). the axial rtr innt bad, but could use a bit of love, and theres alot of free mods that you can do to improve its abilitys out of the box. you can use the 2.2s inside, but they are a bit bigger. so it may be a bit Big for indoor play. Ofcourse this depneds on the amount of room and type of crawling you have indoors.

the 27 turn isnt too bad. it has an 18t pinion on the motor, but comes with a 14T. both do pretty good, but obviously the 14T is slower than the 18T.

alot of guys go for a 35 to 55T motor.

Gonna have more fun couch crawling with the Losi.

I've tried it with my CR-01 and I have to make a 30 point turn to turn around on the couch

i think im gonna go w/ the MRC for indoor fun as well as outdoor mini crawlin.

also based on the fact that the axial comes w/ a 27t motor, i assume that the LOSI is more of CRAWLER right out the box?

the 27 turn works great for SLOW speeds with the 14T pinion. i wasnt aware the losi came rtr. i was under the impression it still needed batts/ charger and radio gear.

dont discount the Axial strictly due to the 27t motor. a 55t motor is only 20ish bux anyways.

i woulndt call the MRC a mini OUTDOOR crawler, unless your rock garden is pretty small.

read thru the rccrawler forum.

there are ALOT of good free can inexpensive mods you can do. for 40.00 you can buy the aluminum links which would be a good upgrade. bents to rear, straights on front.

reading the thread on rcc is your best bet without breaking out the wallet again.

i got it fosho!!!!!
as far as like hop ups go i only got the bent links for the back, and did a lil Bob Mod to the tires.

i added 4 oz to each front wheel soon to be more) , then i turned the stock foams inside out. The foam is therfore smaller w/ in the tire, allowing it to be REAL nice aand squishy coushy.

The bent links are totallay key, and as soon as i had the set together, i realized what a sweet concept they were!!

now, these springs suck. what the hell, is this thing supposed to be a sports bike? the springs are tighter than a cheerleading camp in alaska!

what are some good soft squishy springs? i may cut these in the in the mean time.!

then, the only BAD thing, that required 2 hrs of a red faced Bob, was getting the 20t pinion off the motor. POS tension screw turned to butter on me. i had to use a vice grip and drill it out, before i could put the decent pinion in it.

My LHS is closing, so i got the AX10, bent links for the rear, the link kit, screw ends, 8 AA's, a news deans plug, and a 1100mah 6cell for $311.00. i was stoaked.

goin to the hills today. its nice to live so close to them mountains!

You could just take the springs off and run a droop set-up i run it in my scaler and it works pretty good.

i think the RTR has the Blue springs (hardest). the end of the spring will have some paint on it.

Red is the softest (in the Axial Springs) some guys are running the Losi White springs (losi's softest) in the rear and red (axial reds) up front.

you may want to leave the rear left (rear view) spring in a blue to keep that shock stiffer than the other side to help with torque twist. once you go to a 4link plate in the rear, its not as needed. also look into "Mirrored Tranny" on the axials. this too help eliminate the torque twist.

check it out!!

the bent arms ar fantastic by the way. really adds to the articulation. i went back and got ones for the front too

and i found a GREAT place to crawl around.

this 27t motpr sux. it jumps forward, but creeps ok backward. so i reversead my motors polarity until i can get a 55-65t lathe motor this week.

PICS!!!

i also cut the body up more than it is in that pic. seems to help a good deal!

i got it fosho!!!!!
as far as like hop ups go i only got the bent links for the back, and did a lil Bob Mod to the tires.

i added 4 oz to each front wheel soon to be more) , then i turned the stock foams inside out. The foam is therfore smaller w/ in the tire, allowing it to be REAL nice aand squishy coushy.

If your running stock wheels, try 6.5 ozs up front and 3.5 in the rear.

The bent links are totallay key, and as soon as i had the set together, i realized what a sweet concept they were!!

Yes, the high clearance links are very functional.

now, these springs suck. what the hell, is this thing supposed to be a sports bike? the springs are tighter than a cheerleading camp in alaska!

what are some good soft squishy springs? i may cut these in the in the mean time.!

Limit the stock shocks internally about 20mm w/ fuel tubing and try a set of Losi white springs. Cutting the springs doesn't change the spring rate, just the ride height.

then, the only BAD thing, that required 2 hrs of a red faced Bob, was getting the 20t pinion off the motor. POS tension screw turned to butter on me. i had to use a vice grip and drill it out, before i could put the decent pinion in it.

Sorry to hear your LHS is closing.

goin to the hills today. its nice to live so close to them mountains!
