RE: help with how to grease shaft/cable
What type of boat and drive system do you have and some pictures would help us help you figure out how to remove it.
What you want to do is remove the shaft from the stuffing tube after each days run, wipe it down and store it in oil. Transmission oil will work just fine. You can make a container to hold it from some scrap PVC. When you take your boat out again use heavy duty marine grade grease. The same stuff you would use on your trailers wheel bearings. Get enough on there to coat the entire surface and replace it. You are good to go.
Some boats "Enforcers" have a fitting on the clutch cone that can be greased without removing the cable. I would still recomend periodic removal to inspect it anyway.

Put an oiler in and never take the shaft out!!!!!
Add an oiler to your boat and you won't be sorry and your hands will stay clean.

here are some pics and how and where do i get oiler
here are some pics and how and where do i get oiler
or you can make it yourself.
Items needed
(2) 1/2" cpvc caps
(1) pc. 1/2" x 2" cpvc pipe
(1) glue cpvc
(2) 10/32 brass water fittings
(1) stuffing tube collet
(1) 1/8" x 4" water tubing
(1) 1/2"cpvc clamp
(1) shut off clamp
You could mount it on the cover of your motor.
When the motor is running it sucks the oil right down the shaft and out the back.
At the end of the day if you pull the shaft you can see its well oiled.
I would pull the shaft every now and them just to let them rest are they can
hold the shape of the bend in your stuffing tube and rob you of a few RPM'S
Let them lay straight every now and then.
Hope this helps.

Is you cable a square ended one at the motor end? if so then you need to remove the ferrule that joins it to the ss stubb shaft by loosening the grub screws then slide out the cable. If its a round end with a collet at the motor then just loosen the collet and slide the whole thing out through the strut and regrease and put it back in .
