RE: King Tiger
Stern,
I haven't posted recently on my KT build - working on install of all the electronics features.
But here is the first test of the firing KWK with modified Tamiya recoil (I just ground off gear teeth and added a spring.)
Test is indoors (snowing outside), so I used flashpaper and no black powder for the charge.
Will assemble turret and test outdoors with black powder later today.
There is about a 1:3 ratio between the time for recoil and the time for return. I will probaly slow the return and speed the recoil- what do you think?
Also, the flash seems late relative to recoil. But with BP and smoke and a loud bang it may look right. But I can also make the firing earlier if necessary.
Details will be posted later in my build thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10080455/tm.htm
Here's the clip:

RE: King Tiger
Hi Dan,
I took a longer look at your video and would say - do the recoil a bit faster

Your muzzle flash is fantastic!!!

RE: King Tiger
Stern,
The muzzle flash is improved with more smoke and the recoil has been made faster with a stronger spring.
I'm finshing painting and hull details over the next few days and will post new video in a new thread then.
Here is a clip of a barreltest showing the high smoke output.
Problem is that it is a single shot system....

RE: King Tiger
Hi Dan,
I understand the problems - but if I compare it to the old original videos, I really have to say that this is a very, very authentic muzzle flash - this is the most important for the first step! I have spended hours on the exhaust smoke - speed, volume ... but it is a magic moment if you get a picture of a authentic working Tiger! I also did a KWK smoke - but it is not authentic enough - yours is - GREAT - I have to do that ...
Looking forward to your next steps!

RE: King Tiger
Stern -
More information on the KT build and KWK is here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10248274
The flash and smoke are good. In the clip, the barrel recoil is stil too slow. I adjusted barrel alignment, lubricated the barrel and increased the spring tension. Faster now - need to makeanother video.
Another problem is that the explosion is just a little late after theTamiya "bang" sound and the start of the recoil. It takes time to ignite the charge, so I have tofigure out how to delay the start of recoil and recorded sound. Not easy since the BP ignitionis from a servo switch slaved to the KWK firing channel. See my thread for ongoing discussion (my apologies for hijacking your thread...)
And here is a short clip - very quick and not very good but it's very cold outside...
