Default First RC Car

Okay, i have seached and determined used is not the way for me to start out. Therefore i now must buy new. I am looking for suggestions on what to get. I have come toexpect that I will begoing brushless.

Here are my expectations/qualifications:

Easy to use/low maintenace(I am capable but don't want to fix it each time I rip it down the road)
fast
durable
1/10 scale(in or around)
on/off road bashing in the yard, streets - Eventually like to make an attempt at racing locally
first car/truck, need to make it memorable
preferrably less than $300
Noobie in every area of the hobby

Unfortunatley the hobby shops around are pricy (40% markup over MSRP, joys of living in Canada), so a respecable on-line store will also be helpful. Thsi will be the first of many investments into the hobby. Because you can't have just one, I know I will eventually need multiple. I also know the first experience is the most memorable.

That is a lot to ask for $300

Normally i would tell you to go out and get yourself a traxxas 2WD model like the Slash, Pede or Rustler but you said you might be interested in racing at some point. For a decent basher that is also good on a track i'd recommend you look at the HPI E-Firestorm or Blitz. The firestorm comes brushless. The Blitz does not but it's also $100 cheaper.

As for buying online. Become a towerhobbies member and buy from them. You'll make back the membership fee on the first order.

I completely understand that the first part of the purchase is just the beginning. I am sure there will be more cars to come. I have used my buddy's RC10(broke it in half in only 2 laps) and his Rustler VXL(?). I truely wnat a machine I can grow with.

Tower Hobbies is an excellent place to go. As for a good truck, perhaps an MGT 3.0? It's only about 20 or 30 over what your budget is at Tower, will do what you want to do, and is very durable.

It's free to create a user account and place orders, however, he is referring to the "Super Saver's Club" which right now is $9.99 for 1 year or $19.99 for 2 years. They will continuously send you emails with coupons and member only deals on specific products. As stated, your savings in the first purchase will make up for the inital fee. Also, orders ovr $149 and occassionally $99 are shipped for free.

I vote SC10 RTR.

For example:

the SC10 Brushless RTR at Tower Hobbies sells for $269.97. As a member in that price range you get a $40 discount plus shipping is free. Now, you're at $229.97; but, add in $9.99 for the membership fee and you have it new and delivered to your door for $239.96, assuming they don't charge tax in your state. From there you need a respectable charger and batteries which would likely bring the total to just over $300.

The hot bodies does look like a good deal, but its Nitro only. I don't think i am ready for Nitro. I have heard they are touchy, especially up here in the colder weather. I may look into the SC10 a little bit, Last time I was at the local hobby shop, i think they had some SC10's for $225. I will have to go take another look.

Is there much difference between the trucks and buggies? i.e RC10 vs SC10, the only real difference that I can see is the body style, the chassis and the suspension look to be simular.

the rc10 is wider more stable the sc10 is more softly sprung with the rc10 its been out so long there is also a ton of parts out there once you learn how to control a 2wd stadium truck everything else is a piece of cake also they are east to work on .yoer basic starter cars but still well built and tough

You have given me lots to think about.  i will tour around tower and Stormer, looks like some good deals to be had.  I almost bought the Rustler VXL(RTR, charger and all), at my local shop for $450, good think i checked around its only $330 everywhere else.  But I will also look into the SC10 or RC10.  I seen that Stormer also has a large selection of Kyosho(sp?) cars.  There is so much to learn and I am soo eager to get started.  But I know I have to start right.
