how do i plug in multiple battery packs?
i was wondering how, in a single receiver system, do i plug in dual battery packs?
all 8 channels of the receiver are going to be used, but if i mount an extra switch, and use a couple of "y" cables, shouldn't i be able to use 2 batteries, and end up with a nice redundant system(unless receiver dies) that is easy to charge? and would it matter if packs were not exactly same (e.g one is 2000mah, other is 1100mah) but both are 6.0 volts?
this is the first "big" plane i have had, and am trying to get things done "right"...well..i call it big..is only 1.20 lanier edge arf but is pretty dang big to me!!
any suggestions/hints will certainly be welcome..!
thanks!

Best to have 2 switches, both pluged into seperate ports on the reciever.. As long at the voltages are the same, the capacity doesn't matter.. And remember to charge them seperatly..
The reason for not using a y to connect the 2 switches is:
If for whatever reason you get the black wire problem... it will effect BOTH packs.. If they are seperate going into the reciever, it most likely will not effect you in flight.
I have been running this setup for years w/o problems.

Check out this site:

It describes the black wire problem along with many other things you never knew or always wanted to know.

Check out the battery clinic. I use one batt in the Batt port of the reciver (with switch) and the backup wye'd in with the channel nine servo. The backup batt has its own switch too.
I think Red put the kabosh on the dissimilar pack size backup deal. Somthing like it would take several months to discharge the larger pack into the small one - so it's not an issue.
However, I think it's overkill on a 1/4 scale, but it's better then adding lead!!

I already use two battery packs on my 24% CA extra 300L...I need more nose weight...can I add a third battery pack instead of lead?

hmm...never heard of that, but am glad that you made me aware of the possibility that this can happen....
sounds like with the nimh packs that i have nothing to worry about, and i am toying with the idea of getting one of the "cheaper" duralite packs with a regulator...
i think of it as being an expense that is cheaper than having to buy a new plane due to a failure...
kind of like my scuba gear...my poseidon stuff is freakin expensive as hell, but it is cheaper than a coffin...
thanks to everyone that posted...
