Another recommendation thread for Christmas!!
So, my brother would like to get his son an RC car for Christmas but it has to be around $60 so I know nothing fancy or exceptionally nice but something rechargable and off-road. My experiance is so far only with Traxxas but I know their too expensive for that budget.
Anythoughts on a decent option and thanks!

Hmmm $60 is going to be tough, I can't think of any hobby grade RCs at that price but you will be able to buy a toy one with a rechargeable battery at that price probably. Check out radioshack, their toys are decent. If you can push the budget to $100 I can come up with a few hobby grade cars.

the onlything hobby grade for that price range is the propulse t100 or b100.
you can find them on ebay for $55ish shipped with a battery.
radioshack sold them for a time.
they are a copy of the EA 1/18 scale line.
They are 1/18 scale, so that does limit their offroading ability. but they are 4wd and have decent speed.

That's what I was afraid of but what is decent in the $100 just in case he decides to go a little higher.

HPI mini recon for $100 its 1/18th scale but pretty durable(from what I saw on youtube no ones broke a part yet going over 40mph into curbs). Fully RTR all batteries (even the controller's) are in the box.
Could use a better charger but seeing its a 1100mah NiMh the wall charger might be good enough. Will say off the included battery I got around 25 mins of run time before I decided to stop running it. Also clipped a few bricks, and nothing broke. The plastic is pretty flexible too so when it hit something it pretty much just bounced off. Also didn't have any issues driving through grass that was 2 inches high.

even $100 is a tough budget if you want a 1/10 scale.
i will second the recon, decent chassis and made by good company.
if you consider looking used on ebay, there are some good deals.
i recently got a used redcat volcano epx pro(brushless) Ready to run with 2 lipos and a lipo charger for $85 shipped[8D]
YOu can find some decent brushed rustlers or stampedes for about $100 as well

I could recommend a used team losi mini-t truck. You could probably pick a used one up for about $60 with asome upgrades. I have one and it's fun to play around with. its 1/16 scale, but pretty fun.</p>
