Default Help reproducing a fiberglass cowl

I recently acquired a couple of old Ikon N'wst kits. I'd like to be able to reproduce the fiberglass cowl and other parts included in the kits so I could build scratch build the plane again in the future if I want to. Ideally I wouldn't have to destroy the original parts. I've been having problems searching RCU since the upgrade. Can someone point me to a how-to, FAQ, etc for how to do this or walk me through how to do it?

Neddy191, There are several modelers in North Carolina who can coach you on making fiberglass reproductions of your parts. I don't want to give names out, but ask around, and you should be able to find help. Also there is a business in High Point, NC that is an excellent source for all kinds of glass cloth in reasonable quantities for modelers. It is Thayer Craft, and their web site is thayercraft.com There are several business that supply parts for even older kits. I'm not exactlly sure of their business names, but I think they are Fiberglass Masters, and Fiberglass Specialities? There is another business in Dayton OH Called Fiberglast Products that has "how to" books on making molds, and also supplies a lot of the materials for mold, and part making. Good luck, Greg

"so I could build scratch build the plane again in the future if I want to. Ideally I wouldn't have to destroy the original parts."

What I have done: My artists/craft supply store sells rolls of pre-preg plaster fabric. Cut a piece to length, set it in water; remove and apply to the surface. As many layers as you want. When the entire cowl is covered, let cure and remove. Then you have a female mold that is an exact reproduction of the original, and you can go from there.\

Thanks for the link. I'll try to look at it when RCU lets me.

Not sure what planes you have, but here is a suggestion. Good Luck, Dave
