what would you think of this....
So I was running my Tamiya super hornet today, stock motor on a 2s lipo, and while the traction and handling suck it is still a lot of fun to drive. But grass or rough surfaces get the chassis hung up pretty easy.
So this thought occurred me....what if Tamiya made some of their vintage chassis's in 1/5 scale!
Think of it... a 1/5 scale hornet or lunchbox. Same design, just with thicker plastic and a stronger motor (Im thinking traxxas 775!)
At 1/5 scale, with much larger tires you would get some good ground clearance. And with the added size the silly suspension designs should become even more apparent, thus making the grin on your face even bigger!
Seriously, with all my awesome RC ideas I should be a key player in the major RC companies

Lol, awesome idea but....
I think there would be some massive durability issues.
As much as I love Tamiya there older products and re releases are borderline fragile.
Example.... U can cut a tamiya chassis with lexan scissors and its very brittle
traxxas chassis no way.... Still takes a few min with a hacksaw, but defiantly not brittle.
Allso there is design issues, they were made back in a time where CAD were at there most primitive form. And compared to today's designs they are just not built on the same standard. A lot of the current toy grade RC cars are on the same level as some of the old tamiya kits but they come with the most basic of ESC compared to MSC and u can't buy parts.
i think the chassis would need a lot more strengthening apart from been up scaled and use a less brittle plastic...
still it would be cool.

and I was thinking either a 1/10 scale brushless system geared way down.....or a 14.4v brushed esc with a 775 sized brushed motor.
The 1/6 scale tyco batmobile I got I put a 1/10 brushless system and got about 20mph on a 2s lipo and it runs fine.
Id even bet they could use the stock lunchbox/hornet gear sets....just lengthen the axles and tubes to get the width. I say this cause their gears are fairly wide and we know the 1/10 lunchbox and hornets can handle brushless power....even tho they have no slipper clutch.
Personally, Id pay $300 for a 1/5 or 1/6 scale lunchbox kit

Oh, I agree that the plastic would have to be much thicker...and possibly even need to be a different type of plastic.

Giant hornet sounds cool though

id just be happy if Tamiya released all there old plastic highly detailed bodies in 1/5 scale....
lunchbox...80's Van, Clodbuster 80's chev pickup, highlift F250, Hilux....etc
IMO if there was some decent bodies for 1/5 crawlers more people might jump on board....
at the moment there is only really those 1/6,1/7 highly detailed bodies from toy grade rc cars....

and Id even like to see some of their 1/10 plastic bodies replicated in lexan. I love my lunchbox but you have to be careful how hard you bash it with the plastic body. With lexan I wouldn't worry as much. And lexan a midnight pumpkin or clod buster body may not cost as much and would be cool for 1/10 crawlers.
