Evo 40/46 Remote NVA Fits McCoy 35 Red Head
I purchased a remote NVA for an Evolution 46 engine from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006O5II4/ from source, Horizon Hobbies: http://www.horizonhobby.com/remote-n...-46-evo046874a
Interestingly enough, its mount pattern perfectly matches the backplate bolt spacing on my Testors McCoy 35 Red Head. I took 2 longer 4-40 screws, trimmed them 1/8" longer than the factory screws using my crimp tool with bolt cutters. and mounted the Evo RNVA. I removed the spray bar, reinstalled it the opposite direction for fuel pickup, and plugged the hole where the old needle went with a short 2-56 screw with flat washer.
(Please note, the blackened head is due to use of an incompatible paint not heat resistant.)
Then I bench ran it. Took a little tweaking to get the setting right, it runs at a nice 4 cycle barely breaking into 2 at 1.75 turns open. This needle works very smooth, I was able to leave it set and restart keeping the same setting without any further tweaking. It looks like I've got a winner here.

You're welcome, Gene, please let us know how it worked out for you. Soaked the head in the Poly-Perk percolator coffee pot and 50-50 antifreeze for 2 days in warming mode. Paint and hardened Castor scrubbed off with an old toothbrush, finishing with a soapy scrub. Now I have options, I can leave it in natural aluminum or paint it.

Testors used a paper gasket for the head gasket. I hypothesize that Permatex Ultra Gray RTV ought to work as a head gasket as the heat of combustion by methanol is 9,800 BTU/lb. versus gasoline at 20,400 BTU/lb. We don't get the cigarette lighting temperatures on exhaust parts like one does with auto exhaust manifolds. Ultra Gray is known to seal in very thin coats, used in auto transmission cases and I've used it with success on motorcycle cases. That was sufficient without concern for burning or heat stressing the paper.
I ran the engine 4 times, an ounce at a time. The Permatex Ultra Gray held. I've got 2 other McCoy 35's, when I strip the paint off their heads will be the time to repaint them. Thanks to Dennis Lipsett's inputs, I only need one can of Duplicolor engine paint and not the primer ($$$). This setup is good to go.

I think I'm going to like it a lot Gene, will be certainly easier to adjust being a distance away from the prop.
BTW, I like this enough that I ordered another for my other 35 RH.

Got it installed on the second one and it runs just as fine, 1.5 turns on the needle for a 4 cycle run barely breaking into 2 on an APC 9x6 prop.
Not shown, after I tested an HSP of Taiwan N3 hot glow plug in the McCoy, found they work really well. (Swanson Thunderball Red Hot plug is temporarily filling the bottom left bubble.)
