Help with tmaxx
Hello all so it's been a long long time since I messed with my tmaxx has Sat for probably 10 years I put a used motor in it got it running good I upgraded the steering servo to a hitech unit and upgraded my radio to the tqi Bluetooth telemetry one I got new on ebay now I have this sensor that came with it I think it's an rpm sensor and temp sensor it's been do long all this new technology they are making for them idk how to wire it or if I'm missing parts I'm running a tmaxx 2.5r aluminum bulk head shock tower and a arms I have all the rears and rpm bulk heads for the rear I have the black 2 speed trans with reverse and metal spur gear. The tmaxx is pretty old was a 1st gen if i remeber correctly any help would be greatly appreciated

Traxxas has instructions available on their website for the telemetry and the sensors. The black loop gets wrapped around the engine at the head. The black and red wires that are cut I believe go to the receiver battery to read it's voltage and power the temp and rpm sensors. The other part is a rpm sensor and on the TMaxx and other intros traxxas actually reads flywheel rpm. There's a flywheel with a magnet in it you'd need but I'm not sure how the rest of the sensor gets mounted. You could just use the temp and volt sensor leaving the rpm wrapped up.
For the electrics Traxxas uses the rpm sensor to read the spur gear rpm and there's a magnet mounted in the spur gear with a special retainer plate. To do this on your TMaxx you'd need the Traxxas kit that converts your slipper to the new Revo style so you can use new style spur gears (included with slipper kit) that are mounted with 3 bolts. Then you can get the magnet retainer and magnet and finally figure out how to mount the sensor to the truck close enough to the magnet to read it. Or you could just get the magnet and try glueing it to your current spur gear but you'd still need to figure out how to mount the sensor. The TQi software probably doesn't support figuring out speed with the magnet mounted to the spur on the black trans though so going through all this may be a moot point.

I'll have to do some more research not sure if this send mounts with my 2.5 it looks like it's suppose to mount to the motor mount but it's not close to anything then. The temp sensor tho I may hook up that's pretty important to keep a proper tune and not overheat it. I did see there's a flywheel with a magnet built in that I can buy from amazon so I may do that

Yea thats the rpm sensor for nitros. Just need the flywheel with the magnet in it. There are 3 different mounts depending on a couple of factors. They are marked with an A, B, or C. Would have to look at the website to see which suits your setup.
As Maj said the black wire loops over the cooling head. Just put the shrink wrapped part opposite the exhaust at the bottom of the cooling head. Grey plug plugs into temp/voltage on receiver, the blue into the rpm port, and the red into a spare channel port for voltage. With the voltage however I spliced it into the battery + wire and plugged it into the first CH1 port. That way you don't use up a CH slot just to read the voltage. Also both sets of wires come out of at black plastic piece. It is like a wire tie down of sorts. You can put it back after running the wires to your liking.

Ok so I figured out how to mount the rpm sensor and that I need a magnet flywheel what's the best way to wire the temp sensor I assume it needs to be pretty tight around the head as low as possible on it to get an accurate reading as close to the glow plug as possible? If that's the case I'll wrap it around and zip tie it with stainless ties as far as voltage I don't care about that right now. You guys are very helpful thank you.

You don't nessecarily have to zip tie it. That's what the little clear looking piece does.
The voltage sensor can help with runaways when the batteries get to low. You can set the minimum voltage and alerts you when they get to low. For the time being you can just plug it into a spare channel.

Hmm I have it so may as well add it I guess I'm going to upgrade to a hump pack to I went from the old style radio with crystals to this tqi Bluetooth unit I paid 50 for it brand new with all the sensor the transmitter and reciever and Bluetooth unit so can't complain it works great only thing was I don't like the small wheel so I took the foam from my other control and put the foam over top to make it bigger.
Update so I ran it around a little bit highest the temp got according to the on board gauge was 280 and that was idling sitting still it ran about 260 during hi speed runs so if that's accurate that's pretty good in my book. Managed to break a rear bulk head and shock tower glad I have aluminum parts waiting to go on it
