Default Newbie, upgrading his E-revo(non brushless)!

Hi, im rather new to the whole rc car world, i did run some electric rc cars back in my teenage years, and every so often since then, ive thought about, once again, getting an rc car/truck, but bigger, heavier and upgradeable! Last weekend, i was at a friends house, near a big Rc car/airplane retailer here in Denmark, i went over there with my buddy and long story short, i ended up with an E-revo 1:10/1:8 truck and a Traxxas Ez-peak charger!
Ive already ordered a bunch of NIMH and LIPO batteries online, aswell as good AA battery charger with 2500mAh batt. for the controller - So i feel im on my way!
But at the same time, theres just SO MUCH i want to get into pulling apart and replacing with bigger, better, faster! But my knowledge about the parts in the RC cars and its build up, is simply holding me back!

But here is where im at: Im thinking about buying a set of Brushless motors(to replace the two Titan Monster 550 brush motors) and an ESC able to handle these. I am however inclined not to go with the traxxas options regarding ESC and brushless motors. The reasons for this being, that they are, first of all pretty expensive, but second and just as important, there is as i understand it, other brushless motor and ESC ´s to choose from, that will make my E-revo abit different from the "normal" E-revo brushless.

Any ideas/links to what brushless motors i could use, will be greatly apprecated! For example, i read about sidewinder from castle creations, that these could be a usefull alternative to the traxxas brushless!? But is it a viable alternative, and what about ESC!?

Also, even though ive only driven the E-revo around a weeks time, ive already noticed a few things that is annoying me! First of all, when for example i have the e-revo at near max speed, brake and want it to reverse, theres a delay from when i push the controller handle forward to when the car starts backing up, i might even have to let go of the tricker and push it again from neutral position! Is that normal!?

Also, the car itself is pulling somewhat to the right side, when just trying to go straight forward, how is this corrected most efficiently!?

And last but not least, ive bought an off-road, to be used, ofcourse, off-road! But id like to be able to run it on road aswell - other than going for road tires, for instance from pro-line, what other changes/upgrades would be advisable!? And following this, if this was your rc, what other parts would go see as weak links when it comes to its durability aka. what parts would you be thinking of change right from the get go!?

I hope i havent scared to many of with my long thread and mediocre english skills!

Thanks in advance for all and any replys!

Regards Mikkel

First lets get your trucking tracking straight. Step 1, power the truck and radio on and find the "steering trim" knob on the radio. Step 2 make sure the knob is at zero/centered. Step 3 check the alignment of the wheels and adjust the title rods to get it as good as possible, refer to the manual for how to adjust. Step 4 drive and adjust the steering trim knob to get the truck tracking straight. You want the steering trim knob as centered as possible as you do lose some steering travel when the trim knob isn't centered. This is nearly impossible though so don't sweat it just get the mechanical alignment as good as you can.

I personally wouldn't worry about using a specific tire for onroad use. Instead just use the stock tires for onroad and get another set for off-road use and keep rotating the worn tires to onroad use. Onroad specific tire don't always offer much if any performance advantage. As for setup for running onroad, consider lowering the truck slightly by using different holes in the suspension arms for the pushrods. 4 screws you can raise and lower the truck fairly easily and quickly without changing other settings.

Brushless systems. Your truck is basically a 1/8 scale vehicle that requires a 1/8 sized brushless system. A 1/8 brushless system will consist of an esc that can take 4s-6s lipo, has a 120-150amp rating and a motor that's 40-42mm in diameter by at least 74mm long with less than 2400kv. The Castle Sidewinder system is a 1/10 system and will not work, it doesn't have the power to push a big heavy monster truck. The Castle Mamba Monster system is the one you want which is exactly the same as the Traxxas MXL6s system since Castle makes it for Traxxas. If those don't fit in your budget consider a Hobbywing system as they're a little less expensive but again it needs to be a 1/8 system. Personally I'd avoid the Turnigy Trackstar stuff, been seeing quite a few that don't last too long.

Since we're talking about 1/8 brushless, I'd cancel the order for more NiMh batteries. NiMh is less powerful than lipo and unless they're really good packs won't be able to keep up with the demands of a 1/8 brushless system.

With chevron style tires no matter how center your steering is the truck will float either way but it shouldn't dart..

If you have stock traxxas servos the centering will drive you crazy trying to get the truck handle properly. Gears are sloppy and motors are weak in those..

The only off road tires for on road use that I've had experience with have been sweep racing belted off road crushers they are $80-$90 for a set of 4 and you need 17mm hexes to mount them.
