Hi all.. i have just finished building my gas rigger with a zen 27cc engine.. its been on the water for the second time and still has a problem.. it floats well . does not sink haha.. the problem i have with it is that when i turn right is slows down so much its like a braking effect.. but when i turn left it picks up speed .. i have tried a 472.. 470.. and a 467 size prop.. i have also tried a 3 blade with no luck at all. i and a few other club member are not sure what else to try. any help would be great..

Pics of your hardware and turn-fin setup would be helpful. If you have video of what is going on it would also help.

Hello justaddwata. Not sure how to add pictures at the moment. I using a short turn fin. The strut is the same height as the turn fin bracket. Just the same as any other gas riggers on YouTube and the same as my Rossi 7.5 cc rigger which goes well..

It sounds like a strut height problem to me. It's leaning in the turn and putting the prop deeper in the water.

For pictures, use the Go Advanced button, not the normal box. Click on Manage Attachments then upload the pictures from there.

OK, here's kind of the problem. It's a scratch-built boat and a lot of things are way off on it. The reason why kits or Almost Ready-to-Run boats cost so much is because manufacturers have spent a ton of time and money to perfect a model. One can not simply throw one together and hope it'll work. Outriggers can be very finicky animals. You're trying to run non-lifting props on it. the boat when built right should require a low- to high-lifting prop and usually smaller in diameter, around 67mm.
I'm trying to find words to say something kind about it but it's not easy. I'd score another hull and take everything out of that one and put it in one that's a proven design. The Zippkits boats use a lot of the same hardware that's on yours. www.zippkits.com .

So much wrong with this rigger its too much to fix right. The booms are way too low where they enter the sponsons
The thin riding surfaces in the back will do nothing but grab in the turns.

thanks a lot for both your replies.. i am going to take your advice ron and treat myself to the envy rigger from zippkits.. i could only find the envy rigger on that site.. do you know anything about that rigger. or would you recommend a different one..i won,t be racing it will be just for fun.

I had the 1st Gen of his gas 'rigger and have built a few smaller nitro versions. The Envy is the latest version of it so there were a lot of changes made for the better. If you look at the list of who worked on the JAE line of boats, that's only a partial list as there were others behind the scenes. The most significant thing is that it was lengthened 4 inches which really helped.
The first one is just a comparison between the .12 nitro and the gas version.
