MVVS 2.15 Gasser & 3D or FunFly ... BEST PROP??
I have an MVVS 2.15 with tuned pipe. Mounted on OMP Profile Edge 80". Looking for best prop fit for 3D'ing. Or if you have it mounted on any 3D type plane. Looking for best torque.
PLEASE ADVISE !

RE: MVVS 2.15 Gasser & 3D or FunFly ... BEST PROP??
Well thats a good one ! I had a OMP540gs with a moki 210. the only prop I found with a large diameter and low pitch was a zinger 18-6
Its the lowest pitch -big diameter prop. you can find from anyone
I wish APC would make a 20-4 as this IMHO would have been perfect for this engine, airframe combination
hope this helps

Nope and I do not you will ever find a commercially available one because with these big props anything over 7500 and they start breaking the sound barrier at the tip and it causes some major harmonics and keeps the prop from running at peak performance.Even if they made one and you ran it at 7500 rpm your top speed would be just above a stall speed.

I don't mean to sound condescending but could back up your theory with a location that I could read about that on the net somewhere. Relatively speaking what would be the difference in length of the prop vs the pitch as compared to say a 12.75 x 3.75 on a .46 FX engine.
Your theory makes sense, of course, then they would make low pitched props for us 3D'ers if they would work, but they do not, so something is holding them back.
Just would like to read more about it if you have the info.
THANKS!

I will be building the same setup so I am also curious to know. If you search OMP there are people using 22x6 on their Mokis. Maybe you can track them down and see where they're getting them.

RE: MVVS 2.15 Gasser & 3D or FunFly ... BEST PROP??
Ok lets see if I can explain it
12x4 prop at 14000 on a 46 fx about 53 mph
12x4 prop at 7000 on a 46fx about 26 mph
so if you needed to get to 53 mph at 7000 rpm you would need 8 pitch prop
The limiting factor is most gas engines produce most hp around 6500 for big ones and 9000 for smaller in relation a smaller prop on the smaller engines can rev higher without breaking the sound barrier.
so to sum it up a 20x4 prop would have to turn 14000 rpm to go 53 mph

RE: MVVS 2.15 Gasser & 3D or FunFly ... BEST PROP??
Ok I have read this and I want to ask one question. What was wrong with the 22-6 pro zinger that was on the engine when I sold it. It was a hovering fool with that prop and had very good pull out. I don't think you are going to find some "magic" prop for the thing. That one worked very well or at least I thought so. I guess I don't get what you are trying to improve?

Capthis, I am about to start the same project and I haven't ordered an engine yet. How would you rate the MVVS on the OMP. How was the pull out from a hover?

Very good. It would hover well below half throttle, and the pull out was vey strong. If I were building another one, I would go with the mvvs and pipe combo again.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the prop. Since it's a 2 stroke engine I am just trying to get as much torque out of it as possible and seeing whatever anyone else is using.

You might give PK props a call..Phil Kovar, 785 238 1679..
Very nice props, reasonable prices, any size wood, from 14 to 36 diameter, 2,3 and 4 blade...
They don't turn as fast as some, but pull like crazy...Been there....
