U.S. Engines .41cc.. any good?
Ok.. aside from the weight for it's size compared to the newer, lighter and horrendously expensive alphabet soup engines, what's the beef with this engine?
Surely; it has some redeeming qualities?
Your opinions welcome!
Those involving ownership experience most welcome.
Spring starter any good?
Will it flip start easy?
Shake any worse than a G-38 or a G-45?
Will running hi-octane & castor improve it's power?
Do the bearings fall out weekly?

I've had several of them. Heavy, average or below power, good engine for a sport plane. Spring starter OK, but it CAN be hand started.
Regular gas with 2 cycle oil. Castor oil doesn't mix very well with gasoline.
Use an 18-8, 20-8, 20-6 prop depending on the plane. People ask what's the best prop for this engine. YOU have to try a number of them and YOU have to decide which one is best.
Not much shaking, but that mainly depends on prop balance.
Where on LI do you live? I was born and raised in Seaford, 4th generation clam digger.

Hiya Dick! Steve Anthony here.. formerly of SR Batteries. How's tricks, buddy? I'm still in Patchogue.. boats still in the Patchogue River. Clamming all but dead here.. bay's porked. Wasn't all that long ago you could walk across the Great South Bay from gunnel to gunnel on the clammers.. *sigh* all gone now.
I'm setting up a TF ARF pony.. need a rear exhaust engine for it to reduce the amount of cowl hacks and was considering the US 41. I have a healthy and happy G-38 that'll cowl up nicely and so will a US 41. Both engines are real close in performance specs with the US 41 having the edge.. a lil more prop, a lil more RPM. My G-38's have been the most outstanding gas engines I've ever owned.. prop easy, run smooth, never quit; just great sport plane and warbird powerhouses in every regard. Didn't wanna 'take a step backwards' by stuffin a 41 in there.
