Default EPIC Big Bore break in problems

Ok, this is my first brand new aftermarket engine (ive had nova rossi's and such jus used) so the only engine ive ever had to actually break in was the TA18. Well the electric starter made that a breeze. This Epic has a pull start, and I can't get it started for my life. All the settings are where they are supposed to be. is there any special trick to pull start engines to break it in? this is really gettin to me. I needt o get this broken in some what for tomarrow.

I'm not sure if all newer engines are like this but my friend got an OS .15 and even with a starter box,it took him forever to get it started the first time...I can imagine how hard it woulda been with a pullstart. When I broke in my HPI .12RSS I thought it was never gonna start the first time either, pullstarts arent very fun.

I say prime the fuel line just up to the intake nipple, loosen the glow plug a little and try pulling, if it starts then tighten the glow plug. Don't open the throttle or you'll end up flooding due to break-in needle settings (usually VERY rich). If all else fails, lean up the bottom needle about half a turn and see what happens.

If I'm not mistaken, the TC's elec starter should fit on the Epic .18, I'm sure I saw that somewhere in an article.

my hands hurt... lol..

ok I've tried about everything. Its ALMOST started a few times, but there is a puddle of fuel litteraly under the stinger. I've even tried heating it a bit with a hair dryer. I guess I can try leaning it out a bit, but not sure. It wouldnt start like you suggested either Kuma. I also dont have the electric starter on because it weighs i think 3+ times more than the pullstart. This is so annoying.

Keep at it man,its close!! Maybe if theres a puddle its a bit rich?lol.I got a couple drips outta my stinger trying the first time too, just no puddle.Give your hands a break for a few and try it again,it sounds real close.I bet its got hella compression still and its a pretty hard to pull but you'll get it.

I know all about sore hands, spent so much time pulling a brand new XTM .18 and a .15 back in the summertime. What's your elevation from sea level in MI? I'm almost a mile up from sea and had to lean up the needles a little for the engines to actually work right but the hot summer days helped a little too. Since you got a puddle under the stinger, go ahead and lean up the bottom until the motor starts and runs, then richen it until it runs "roughly" which should be the sweet spot for break-in procedure.
