YS63 Problem Getting it to run correctly
I posted a thread in the glow engines section but realized this is probably a better place for it. Heres a copy of a portion of that thread. At this point the engine is running pretty well. Here it is....
I took the plane to the field yesterday and messed with the engine for a while (even had a help from an experienced ys guy).
We didn't have much luck.
This morning I took the engine off the plane and put it on the stand.
Its running very well now but the needle settings have me confused. But this may be normal for a YS.
High Speed Needle: 1 turn open
Low Speed Needle: 6 turns open. (this seems awful lean)
Regulator is flush, or maybe a hair passed flush.
When I ran the engine on the stand I kept leaning the low end until the muffler quit spitting fuel. I still have lots of smoke coming out and when I put my hand in front of the muffler at half throttle, my hand is covered in oil.
Transition from idle to full power is smooth.
Do these settings sound normal? By the way I'm running a 13x4 prop for testing.

If it runs OK at those settings, fine. The idle needle is really just an airbleed anyway, sometimes we will even drill out the hole to make them run leaner in idle. You didn't mention plug or fuel, but it matters little if the thing is running to suit you.
