I also like the Rebel over the Ultra Flash. The Rebel can perform aerobatics, especially knife edges, 4 pt and slow rolls at a slower speed for smaller flying fields. The Rebel has a lifting fuselage when in knife edge, the Flash does not, and needs speed. Here in Florida, our jet fields are becoming smaller, due to urbanization.
I see that in another forum that you started, you just bought a Boomerang XL. The Rebel is a better second jet, for being more forgiving. Best wishes and welcome to jets. Find a good instructor.

That makes sense, the ultra flash looks like a missile. Something more forgiving would definitely make a better 2nd jet. I'm trying to plan my boomerang build to have suitable gear to swap into a sport jet sometime in the future.

The Rebel is not as fast, but I can knife edge my Ultra Flash almost as slow as Rebel people. Weight and balance has a big influence on knife edge, I don’t use full rudder to KE my UF and at less than full power I can climb in KE.
I’ve flown a lot of both, 50+ Ultra Flash and 20+ Rebel 2m, I have several customers who own both models and get on fine with both of them-but less experienced pilots get on better with the Rebel because it’s not as fast and lighter loaded (because it’s bigger)

I have had both the UF and still have a Rebel. I started sport jets out with the UF and that was a mistake. When comparing the Rebel to an UltraFlash, the Rebel is a better jet to start with. UFs do NOT like much rudder. Making the transition from prop planes that use a lot of rudder to a UF can be problematic, etc..
I also have flown several T-Ones and still have a T-One sport jet. They will fly with the 140. But a 160 will give it unlimited vertical, etc. I love the T-Ones. They are really solidly built. But they are ~8 #s heavier than the Rebel. The Rebel is NOT built anywhere near as solid as the T-One. There are few formers, etc. in the Rebel. But that keeps it light, too. If you want a Sport Jet that will take several rough landings or are flying on unperfect grass, then I would suggest the T-One. We have had the gear rip out of a Rebel on grass, and that grass is fairly good and the pilot is a great flyer. If you are flying off asphalt or really great grass, then a Rebel is great too. However, ... Personally, I do not like CARF's live hinging. After <200 flights, the UF's elevator hinge started failing. I replaced the stab. After < 50 flights, that second stab failed in the air and that was the end of the UF. I now check the Rebel's hinges after every flight!

I really like my T-one and have many, many flights on it with a Kingtech K-120G(1). It has enough power to fly it the way I like: smoothly with big maneuvers. I fly off a 300 ft asphalt runway and have no problem getting off with room to spare. It's a little piggish when the smoke tank is full, but without smoke it flies great. I keep saying "I shluld retire this airframe before it retires itself"; but I keep going for it as my regular flier.

UltraFlash all the way for me for the best all around jet, and especially in this size class ... There will always be one or two of these in my fleet .

And the rebel has a very wide speed envelope. Sure, both powered by a 140 the UF is going to be faster, but here in the states you're technically limited to 199mph anyway. My UF for sure flew in the 220ish plus with a 140, but my Rebel with a 170 was teasing that 199mph limit I'm sure! Most fun I've ever had flying a jet has been my Rebel classic. Only reason I got rid of it was because it was built too light to overpower like I did and I was convinced that one day I'd push it too far and it would turn to confetti in the air. But being only 22lbs made it fly so damn nimble compared to, say, the T-one or a Predator. Both of those jets are the same size as the Classic yet weigh closer to 30lbs! I've seen t-ones snap out on landing with little warning, and Predator not much better(crow is a big help). Ironically, I did purchase a second predator, mostly because I already had a ton of stick time behind the one I sold and knew its limits, and also because I know I can push it harder than my Rebel classic, even powered by a 190! I also went with the predator to get back into jets because shops keep them in stock, they come in a 'turbine ready' option, and are notably cheaper to get in the air - $3700 shipped. Rebel ends up closer to $5200[~$4,000ARFplus+shipping(~$200)+ 8ea digital servos, wiring, tubing, hardware, etc ~$1,000] and you have to wait for it to get built, then slow-boated, and you still need to 'build' it.

Does elite aerosport have anything good in the 120-140 size, it seems most of their stuff is a bit bigger? A local turbine mentor is of the opinion they are one of the strongest built jet brands around currently. Thanks for all the info its been very helpful.

They just came out with a BDX that would fly well on a 140, but I consider it a trainer jet. I don't care for the looks of any jet who's wingspan is greater than or equal to the fuselage length. That eliminates the EA BDX and most vipers as I just don't care for their look. EA makes a Havoc EZ that would fly on a 140, but same thing - fuse length equal to wingspan.
But yes, they are built very strong, but at a weight penalty. Just like the T-one and Predator

For a budget minded person the toprc Odyssey is pretty good bet with electron retract setup. The wing is pretty thick so it isnt a speed demon. But flies nice when the cg is about 4cm behind the recommended..
The diablo looks nice but I dont like the small wing above fuselage...
