Default New Engine Help...

If you been reading any of my posts, I am selling ALL my RC stuff and going to get me a new buggy. Most likely the Hyper 7 Pro.

Any Pro kit - does not come with an engine. May sound funny because Pro's do NOT use pull starts, I want a pull start. Sometime I take my buggy on the trails and I can not carry the start box with me when I go. So I am looking for most power for my money UNDER $225 range.

I see a lot of posts where people start recommending stuff over peoples budget. I am not willing to spend more than that for any engine.

While we are at it, I see a lot of .21 size engines that have more BHP than the .25's and the .26's - If the .21 has mor BHP why go for the other? At my track they will let me race with the bigger engines. We have classes for it. A lot of time I will be bashing and doing some wicked jumps.

Cheers!

Study,

I've spent a lot of time looking over the engine issue myself and if you spend any time at the Ofna boards, you will see that one of the engines that alot of the H7 guys turn to is the OS21RG. I was kind of perplexed why somebody running an 8 port (rated at 2.5 hp) would swap it out for a 21RG (1.9 hp). It never really made any sense to me until I ran against a stock RG in an H7 at my track. That dude KILLED me! The torque was amazing! When he blipped the throttle, it was gone. You know as well as I do that the 8 port is no slouch and that it would probably make up some of the difference on the top end, but the RG is a real performer.

Outside of the engines performance, the price is out of this world! You can get it with a pullstart for 139.00 or without a pullstart for 109.00 at Tower. I have the Race ported 21RG in my PBS and when I hit the throttle, the tires just light up! It's absolutely sick! This engine makes a lot of power down low. When comparing dollars to performance, the OS21RG is tough to beat!

Yeah, the one I have has no pull start. I like pull starts too however I figured that since I have a box, I'd give the non-pullstart version a try. I've yet to really wring it out but the bottom end definitely has more power than the 8 port. I got a few runs out of it last weekend but I lost the screw that holds the clutchbell on and I didn't have any replacement bearings (I lost those too). I'm the poster boy for stuff that goes wrong when you don't use loctite!

I can tell you that it's a bullet off the line but I've yet to test the top end against RollinRush's PBS. I plan on doing that this weekend. Should be interesting! Ya know, Kuma mentioned to me that a great combo is the 8 port with the OS20E carb on it. He uses that setup and says it kicks some serious butt. The 8 port is reasonably inexpensive (powerful too) and if you were to throw a 20E carb on there, you'd be right around 200.00. Just a thought.

How are RB Concept motors? Found a RB Concepts S7 for $219

http://www.rbproducts.com/rbww/engines3.5/indexrb21.htm

I am leaning more towards what dagass suggested because of price. But wondering about these motors.

Study,

Thats a nice engine. Maybe a little pricey, but the RB Concepts WS7II is what a lot of the big dogs run. I'm not sure what the power ratings are on the regular S7 but the WS7II is an absolute monster. A couple guys at our track run them. One in a Mugen MBX5 and the other in a Kanai. They are flat out fast!

Yeah - when compare to the OS price - I think I will get the OS engine. I can get a Hyper 7 Pro kit for less than $400 american and then that OS motor with pull start. I already have servos and receivers to use and a decent radio.

Once all my stuff is gone. I will buy it. Depending on time. I might wait for the new kit coming out next month, I have not decided yet.

Study ; I have an OS rz in my mugen.
When I broke off the clutch bell bolt I put in a spare NEW hotbodies 3.5( like from a savage I think) in the mugen.
After a few weeks of driving in the grass with the HB engine I fixed the RZ and when I put it in it was like the buggy EXPLODED off the line.
There was such a huge difference I almost put the HB engine in the dumpster.
My driveway is 2 1/2 cars long.
THe mugen with the HB in it I can fully open the throttle count to 2 and hit the brake without skidding into the street.
With the OS in there the first time I opened it up I hit the brake in 1 second and skidded past the street into the curb on the other side.

Oh and BTW this RZ has uncountable gallons of racing through it plus another gallon of me learning how to drive in the backyard.

I highly recommend one. torque is king.

BTW this HB I have has a pull start on it. I don't think there is anything wrong with it it idles great ; has lots of compression( way more than my well used RZ) . I just got a new VZ, so now I have 2 buggys and 3 engines. think it's worth 50 bucks?

The RZ's are out of my price range. But I am leaning more and more to the one recommended by degass... That price is hard to pass up...

Hey Study,

Like I mentioned, I'm hoping to get some video of the RG in my PBS this weekend. If you're curious, I'll send you some footage.

I'm getting the PBS back together tonight. I'll try and get you some video tomorrow. If not, definitely on Sunday. As for the cooling head, Wicked put it on for me when the engine was ready.

I looked at them - thanks but want to get a new engine.... have to stay within the budget though to do the new and want a pull start.

Here in the UK people go on these nature hikes. I like going on the trails and making the buggy go off these steep hill side drops and watch it fly.... Very nice.... Have only gone couple of times because of carry the starter box, battery, fueld etc etc... be easier with no starter box and battery.
