Default Converting my RC Truck’s Radio system from an Air to Surface Tx/Rx

When I built my 1964 1/12th scale RC Mack Tractor (YT channel @cranemodelbuild, most recent video) I had a Spektrum DX8 Gen2 Tx and a Spektrum AR620 Rx available, so that is what I used. Now I am looking to switch the model’s radio system over to a 3 channel surface Tx/Rx system. I am looking at purchasing a basic low cost Spektrum Smart 3-Channel Tx with a SR315 Rx for about $100. Let me know if there is a better Tx/Rx set up I should be considering in that price range. Thanks!

I've never had much luck with Spektrum radios for surface use, they tend to provide top notch stuff for aircraft but don't put the same level of quality into their surface controllers.

That said, I've had really good luck with Radiolink surface controllers over the years. The last version of their radio that I used was the RC4GS, but the newer RC6GS offers telemetry where you can get readings on the radio itself making it easier to see. With Spektrum you need to look on your phone to get readings which is extremely impractical.

Better yet, the pricing for Radiolink is lower:

Bill,
Thank you for your thoughts and recomendation! My model is driven by a Spektrum Firma 55T Rebuildable 3-Pole Brushed Crawler Motor that is controlled by a Spektrum Firma 70A Brushed Smart ESC, 2S-3S: IC3 controller. Do you think that the system you have recommended will bind to and properly operate these specific components?
BEST,
Tom

Awesome, you'll love it!

Here's a review on the older version of the system that I made many years ago:
