I've built 3 us60's and 2 taipans' (China copy) for me, my son and others. the three us60's all had side mounted engines, the two surviving us60's and the taipans' are all electric now and the biggest problem is takeoff with that little prop.. the side mounted engine was to keep the carburetor on/close to the center of the fuel tank. mounting the engine upright is asking for engine problems, going lean when nose up and rich nose down.

jr-dub64... My guess on no upright motors is the plane iso sleak from the side it would destroy the look of it. Paladin.. I still Miss my CMP giant zero that went in due to a servo failure ! You know.. the one you returned for shipping damage, and I bought and fixed !! That story still makes me laugh.
Also I built a Ultrasport 40 for a guy.. Cut the canopy down to a tiny size , moved it way back by the rudder like a GeeBee racing plane ...........looked and flew great... Wish I had more pics of all those planes in the past.

Nice work on your 60. I like how your wheel wells are turning out.
I have the same colors and a similar trim. It looks like MonoKote discontinued the Sapphire Blue.
A few weeks ago, my Transmitter battery lost a cell and quit while I was landing. The plane fell hard and destroyed the mechanical retracts. I am in the process of getting new retracts from Robart and have just barely enough Monokote left to recover the bottom of the wing. All I found on the internet on was Chinakote that isn't even close to a match.
That said, it looks like a strip down, silk and dope, and new paint job may be in the future for my US 40.

Hi does anyone have pics of an ultra sport 1000 with a bisson pitts muffler installed? I am looking to see if this would work.

Been following with much admiration.
Having built and flown the 1K model years ago, powered by a SuperTigre, I’m joyfully impressed to watch the brotherhood of faithfuls post their reports. Be it flying or building. I’ve a pristine kit in my collection still and wonder if I could find the old building skills and motivation within me to build it.

I'm very sure that what ever glow motor you will use then using a pitts muffler you will practically cut away a lot of wood under neath to get it to clear and so you will loose that "bullet nose" clean look for a "cheeky" pitts muffler look. I also looked into doing this concept but I largely prefer the bullet nose appearance and went with a stock muffler both for 2 stroke and 4 stroke.

Was there ever
An ultrasport 1000 arf. I ask cause a friend got one at a swap meet and the covering looks factory.
Here is mine. It has a stinger 35cc with a 17x10 it tops out at 125 mpg with gear up. 121 gear down. So never retracts again gust 4 speed.

Check this out at Outerzone. You can download the building plans and the construction article from the RCM magazine article. You can take the plans to a Kinkos, Staples, or other printing service and have them printed out to size.
Hope this helps

Since I've been building/flying Ultra Sports for at least 20 years, it's time I make it official. I'm currently flying the US40 I built from a Great Planes kit in 2013. It perfectly suits my sport aerobatics style of flying.
Sadly, there are very few builders in my club. Why miss out on half of your hobby? I've got the plans for a US60 for my winter project.
An odd coincidence - this model clocked 88mph on the radar gun recently. Kits? Where we're going we don't need kits! TC
