Painting Stand
Well I have a workbench on wheels built like a battleship, so I decided to make something to use with the bench. I used 1/2" galvanized pipe, 1/2" PVC couplers bored to 7/8" with a forstener bit, 3 u-bolts to hold it to the bench and some all thread rod to be able to turn the model.

RE: Canopy Latch
Mike,
I checked on the info for the transfer placement on the F-15. What I have is not real clear. Trying giving Philip a call, he may be able to get you an original copy of what he sent me. My copy is to difficult to read.
F-15 Looks great!! Any plans on attending any events like Winamac or Missouri Valley Jet Scramble?
Regards,
Kevin barr

RE: Canopy Latch
Flying Arrow,
Thanks for the compliments!
Kevin,
I had contacted Philip and he offered directions for placing decals for about 15.00 or so, but I also contacted TwoBobs graphics and they emailed me a couple of color drawings which help immensely on nomenclature placement.
This year at work hectic and will continue to be for a while so any jet events this year is questionable, but hopefully next year I'll be able to make one of those.
It has been a week and a half since I could get to the workshop. That's how it goes....in spurts!

RE: Cockpit Shots!!!
Just a note to interested parties. My all up weight for this aircraft with a full cockpit and pilot, flaps, gear doors, painting the interior and a AT-280SP engine is 28lbs.
On retrospect, I think the carbon fibre veil/fiberglass cloth combination on the wing and tail surfaces may be heavier than just a straight FG cloth. I think the carbon veil has the capacity to absorb a bunch of resin which is the heavy part. If I was to do it again I might consider just a heavier FG cloth like 2-2.5 oz as specified. It is also important to obtain a "finish weave" as that weave is tighter and less prone to holding resin.

Starting on mine. Found it and put it up for a winter project. winter is just about here. i'll put some pix on occasionally. This is the way jets used to be built. A 20 year old thread for a 20 year old jet. If anyone has a set of retracts for this dinosaur they would like to sell let me know.

Last winter I made a major rebuild of my Avonds F-15. I put in new retracts and new fuel system and a more modern turbine. Now its good for another 20 years..
I bought fuel tanks from CM jets. They have custom made saddle tanks for Avonds F-15 and they made it possible to put all fuel above the CG. That meant a lot. Then I bought retracts from Electron and got rid of the old Spring Air retracts. The Electron retracts are a work of art. I had to go down in size on wheels to make them fit under the fuel tanks bot that was OK. I also took out the old pneumatic system for the wheel doors and put servos there instead. Works perfect together with the Electron retracts.
Then I swooped the old Jetcat P-80 for a somewhat newer Jetcat P-100 and it made a lot of difference. I heightened the nose leg half an inch or so to heightened the angle of attack at take of and also made a large difference to the better.
The F-15 flies like a trainer and is a joy to fly but I wouldn’t expose it to high G-loads.
If you care I could try to post some pictures.
Good luck with your F-15.

here was mine, which lost because of flame out, and sadly my partner couldn't make it to the runway.
It was one of the best plane I ever flew. It was powered with JetCat 160, and my partner compete with it twice in the Jet World Masters.
Sometimes I'm thinking my self, If I want another one, but, first it is very rare to get an Avonds one, and second to many projects....
