Homebrew fuel question
Is it alright to use hardware store grade methanol as fuel?, I've used Kleen-flo Ace, and it says its 100% pure, but is it really? is their any water in it?, and if so, how would water affect my engines?
I would get race grade methanol, but its hard to find.

If the MSDS says it’s 100%, then it should be. If that’s the case, t should be fine to use. If they call I’d denatured or methylated, it’s going to be a blend of ethanol and methanol. It can work, it with lesser effect.

Thanks for the reply
I checked the website of the company behind the methanol (Kleenflo.com), and the MSDS states that the concentration is between 80 to 100%, but it states that the exact concentration is withheld as a trade secret. I then checked the MSDS from the website that I bought the same methanol (Grainger.ca), and it states 100% concentration. Why is this?
Both MSDS's state the chemical as methanol.

If it’s labeled anything less than 100%, it’s probably got water or other compounds mixed into it. That’s how I assume it to be anyway. Methanol is methanol - nothing secret about it. It should contain no color and look like water albeit lighter. Methanol weighs .79g/mL, so a liter should weigh 790g minus the tare weight of the container it’s in. A gallon should weigh 2,986.2g minus the jug. If it weighs more than that by more than a couple percent, it’s got water or something else in it. More than 1% deviation and I wouldn’t use it for fuel. 2-4% water usually isn’t an issue, but that isn’t to say it won’t or can’t be.
