Default Stupid question...

I've been spending the last month learning about RC helicopters, and bought a hummingbird a little bit ago (waiting for xmas to open it.) i've learned a lot, but theres one phrase i still dont know what it means. ESC. [X(] what does it stand for! if im thinking right it is the controller of different functions of the helicopter, cause i hear people saying "uses my old futaba gy240 gyro and seperate ESCs." and other phrases like that. so, im prolly way off, but throw me a bone here.

aha so it only refers to the main motor and the tail motor speed?

and all in one boards such as the piccolo board or hummingboard, what all do they control? im guessing the speed of the motors and the servers? anything else?

Yea, ESC's controll motors.
The all in one Picco boards have a built in Gyro and controls for the servos and the motors. If you go with a brushless motor you need a seperate ESC.
Actually, servos and motors are really all there is to a mini helicopter. And the Gyro. A neat addition to the Gyro is a heading hold module. It will control the tail better. Once you get into it, there isn't alot to it.

Just remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question. Especially not in the world or R/C helicopters, probably one of the most technically oriented facets of the hobby. There's a lot to absorb and it's not always explained well enough.

Regards,

Mike
