Default TURF FACTOR

New 3D Terminology:

TURF FACTOR- A number between 0 and 10 given to the risk you are willing to accept while performing a maneuver. I.E. how willing are you to TURF your bird to complete a maneuver.

TURF FACTOR 10 = Probably flying a new airplane which took you months to build. The last thing you want to do is destroy the airplane you spent many sleepless nights building. Can also be caused by flying a buds airplane. Characterized by flying at ridiculously high altitudes, very few 3D maneuvers, and waiting for the pattern to be completely clear before you attempt to land. Mostly boring flying which nobody takes the time to watch or take pictures of. Can also be caused by lack of sex, extreme hangovers, financially broke and cannot afford a replacement aircraft, or still suffering from the humility of a recent dumb thumb crash.

TURF FACTOR 0 = Probably flying an airplane that you have owned for at least 6 months. Could be an airplane that you are generally unhappy with. Generally, ARF's have lower TURF FACTORS than airplanes you take the time to build. Flying characterized by doing totally crazy stuff. Flying knife edge passes one inch from the dirt, performing touch and goes off of your buds vehicles, no fear of midairs, etc. You will notice that your buds will stop flying, put down their beers, and stare as if they are watching a NASCAR race waiting for the next unbelievable crash! They will normally take the time to take lots of photos. Can be caused by having sex before showing up at the field which gives you a false sense of invulnerability, being under the influence of alcohol, having too much money on your hands with which to purchase a replacement aircraft, or general frustration with life itself.

In the attached photo I would say the TURF FACTOR is between 0 and 1. I think Gator has now been flying this Sledge for about 7 months which in itself significantly reduces the TURF FACTOR.

What is Jess' and Gary's scale for Turf Factor?

Don't Turf Factor and Pucker Factor have a direct correlation?

Gary's nick name should be TF1....but TF means "TOTALLY FEARLESS" in his case.

I never even know when my buds are watching me till either "Stoink" it or almost "stoink" it in, then I know they're there

Gordo and Bizzaro TF for Burrito: 2 and falling. Started out higher, but as the number of "that would have killed any othe profile" turfs increases, the TF decreases.

I would have to agree with Latch that the Pucker factor would also be a part of the equation. Starfish may as well.

One more factor that ALWAYS affects my TF: How many birds do I have RTF! (Or at least close.) If plane X is all I have, the TF is higher!

At home, we refer to it as the "pucker factor", as things other than turf often destroy a good, but not a truly great, plane.

A truly great plane has a soul of it's own, and influences a pilot to reach, but not go beyond, the limits of the duo.

Wow, a guy talks about how crashing a plane don't bother him, and you step up with an offer to fly yours!! Sounds like a deal to me. [8D]

And metal, and sweat and Blood and tears and love and.......well, Ok, mostly just balsa and plastic.

gary, you have kept that TopCap longer than I have ever kept a plane, especiually the ones I try to 3D. Anything I have you can fly. Remember when you flew my Taco in Nashville? It still lives and the moves you taught it are starting to come out when I fly it!!!!!

I really think that helps when a good pilot teaches your airplane how to fly! I know my planes have all flown better after an intense training session with Jeff flying them! And my big omp flew much better after Wayne wrung it out for me!

Oh, and a burrito has a turf factor of less than 0! I don't think you can tear one up?

I'm expecting a new Sledge kit in the mail today. If I get it within 20 feet of the ground within the first couple of flights it will be a personal TF of a 3. Yet when I try to dip the tail in a basketball goal, or a hallway hover with my foamy its only a 9 or 10.
It's funny how cocky you get when your talking a 5 minute repair with a glue gun, and no chance of hurting anybody!!

Oh...er.....well......The TopCap is actually out of action for the moment. [] A severe case of dead-battery syndrome has left it with a broken fuselage. Repairs are almost done, it will fly again soon......that is if I would quit messing around with these foamies and get back to work on it!
