If you are using monokote, it is tougher to get the covering to not bubble on top of itself. There are some great ideas for this if you search monokote on RCU. I prefer Monokote, but have done a couple in Ultracote for this reason and will do my giant Edge in it for that reason. It covers over itself better without the bubbles. You can do it really easy by covering it all in one color and then add trim that way.

The best way to lay one sheet of monokote over another without getting all the bubbling in it is to use the windex method to lay the second sheet on top of the first. Termigator did a great tutorial on making a waving American Flag which covers using windex to do this. You can find his tuturial at

Check it out. He did a really great job and does fantastic at explaning it.

I'm doing a waving flag on my the Somethin' Extra that I'm building right now, and thanks to Termigator on the help at doing the Waving Flag.

Hope his helps

Man, he did a great job on that one! I may just have to try it. The windex method was one I had in mind, but couldn't remember it. I never have tried it yet. Looks pretty nice.

I have heard some talk about the windex method, i take it you just spray the windex on and lay covering on top and don't have to have any heat.

No, you still need heat. I prefer not to put covering over covering. Here's an Extra 330L I did in Ultracote, the red white and blue on the wings are all pstches with about a 1/2" overlap (even over open rib bays)

Mike;

How the heck do you do patches over an open bay? Do you splice them together first on glass and then shrink?

Or you can buy a Woodpecker and give the air somewhere to go. Easier then cutting out al the covered parts but heavier.

Not Mike,

But I have done this before. I used about 1/4 inch overlap. I cut out the patterns, spliced them together (in this case I used monokote trim solvent) on my workbench, then applied the whole thing to the wing. Came out great.
