ZDZ 60 Please help!!!
I'm getting a ZDZ 60 for a WH Edge 27% plane and I need a few of questions anwsered.
1. Can I use a 6 volt Metal Hydride battery on the ZDZ 60 standard ignition system and if I can what milliamp should I use??
2. Is the ZDZ 60 a better choice then the ZDZ 50NG?
3. What is the best prop size for break in and after breaking in?
4. What is the normal break in time?
5. What is the best 2 stroke oil to use? I have non synthic (air cooled engines Penzoil).

RE: ZDZ 60 Please help!!!
I just recieved my ZDZ 60 today and I found out something that surprized me and that I'm not too happy about. The internet website for RC Showcase stated in the ZDZ 60 specs. that the horsepower was 6.5 and the manufacters booklet that came with my engine said it was 5.5 h.p.
Here are RC Showcase ZDZ 60 Specs.
Displacement, 60cc/3.66 ci
Power, 6.5 HP3
Bore, 45mm/1.77"
Stroke, 38mm/1.5"
RPM, Range 1200-8200 RPM
Weight, 1800g/3.96 lbs!1
Fuel, Premium Gas
Fuel Ratio, 1:50 Oil/Gas
Piston Rod, 2 Needle Bearings
Crankshaft, 2 Ball Bearings
Ignition, 4.8 Volt- Electronic
Porting, 5 Channels Schnurle2
Prop Size, 22 x 10-14, 24 x 10
22 x 10 = 7300 RPM
Static Thrust, 36.79 lbs3
Am I missing something or did I loose 1 horsepower because of a misprint.

RE: ZDZ 60 Please help!!!
I wouldn't sweat about any brand's advertized power ratings - it's a WAG, not a measurement.
Just stick a good prop on the engine and enjoy it. The ZDZ-60 is a good strong motor. It will fly any 20 lb plane with authority. I like Mobil MX2T synthetic at 32:1. Try a 22x10 Menz-S prop - I think you'll like it. The ZDZ-60 uses the same lower end as the ZDZ-80 with a smaller piston and cylinder - so it weighs a good bit more than the 50, but should also out turn it by quite a few rpm.

RE: ZDZ 60 Please help!!!
I am flying a ZDZ60 in an Ohio 87" Extra 300L, at 21 pounds RTF. Using an MSC 23-10 prop and regular gas with 50:1 penzoil oil. Just using a 4 cell pack for ignition.
The engine will easily hang the plane, and vertical is as good as it needs to be for IMAC, and hot dogging (unlimited vertical, will do multiple snaps on the upline).
I got the engine used, so I dont know how long it takes to break in.

I HAVE SEVERAL ZDZ ENGINES A 40, 50 , AND 60 and I have found that you should always follow the factory breakin instructions. If you have any questions call RC Showcase and they will help you resolve any problems. They're a great bunch. pjamesrc
