RCS 1.40 ignition box
The ignition box on my RCS has a bad spark plug boot, the first one was ripped off in a crash when the wings came off my plane and the one I replaced it with doesn't make a very good contact. It will only run when I hold the boot down HARD. Can I replace the boot with a large alligator clip or something similar. I think I've seen an engine that uses this method, It seems silly to replace a perfectly good ignition module when all I need is a boot with good contact.

RE: RCS 1.40 ignition box
What would the newest version RCS 1.40 SE with 3 gallons, is not completely broken in, and has a different spark plug boot run for? I like this engine and would like to keep it, but I could use the funds elsewhere right now. I can get a new module for $100, but I would ONLY do so if it would be worth it.

Hi,
Go to your local auto parts store. They can match you up with a boot and connector that connects to the plug end. Get the one that has the small ball and spring, that will hold better. The one with just the spring can slip off or not make contact with the plug. Napa auto parts has them.

Check with CH ignitions or Rcign....It dosen't have to be just for a RCS from RCS...

That boot must be properly installed to prevent ignition noise getting to your receiver. The shielding must be intact. I would send it to someone that knows how to install it.
An alligator clip would not do it

I bought caps for mine from RCS. Are you sure you can't.
Did you post this on the RCS support forum ?????????

I think mine were about 10 bucks, not really sure.

RS2K , yes you can take the metal boot apart from the plug wire, you just have to cut off the heat shringk and slid back the aluminum cap or "can" to expost the inside parts, the then the hole metal plug boot will turn off counter clock wise to come off, it so easy once you tried it, i had to tear into mine in order to find a loose conection that was causing a glitch.

RE: RCS 1.40 ignition box
If the 140 uses a CM6 spark plug you can get a shielded cap from C&H.or DA or 3W...If it uses the Brisk 14mm plug with the top ground off you can replace the short Brisk with a Bosch WSR6F and get a Bosch shielded cap...Either way you will have to solder the braid shield on the wire to the cap to ground the ignition, otherwise you will burn up the hall sensor when the spark jumps through it instead of the ground....
Any of these options are better than the cap that comes with the engine and uses a setscrew to hold it together....
