ZDZ 50NG and ZDZ 60
I've been looking to get back into giant scale aerobatics and I'm looking at the ZDZ line of engines. I've noticed that the ZDZ 50NG is being advertised as having new port timing and a new piston. How does this engine compare in power to the older ZDZ 50??? How does the ZDZ 50NG stack up to the ZDZ 60???
The planes that I'm considering for this installation are the Wild Hare Edge, their new Extra due out next year, and the Composite ARF 2.3M Extra 330L.
THANKS!!! Kevin

Three different setups --
the 50's weigh about one lb less than the 60
they all are about the same money
So ---
As most ARF's are tail heavy - especially some of the new bipes - a 60 is a very good bet - swing more prop and still balance the model
the ZDZ-first version -got a bum rap -
many had a very restrictive muffler - with which ,it was really NOT happy . this engine was intended for free breathing systems and tuned setup - on these it really performs - been there --
the new ZDZNG has a completely different sleeve/piston and is not critical as to muffler - but still has excellent improvements with cans and tuned systems.
Very good overall design - A top notch performer

RE: ZDZ 50NG and ZDZ 60
Use a Bisson muffler. The Bisson muffler is no doubt the best made and with a much larger can ( on the pits style ) it sounds good too . Remember , you will probably take that plane to another field and I just know that your gonna want to fly it there ! I also personally believe that the ZDZ likes the larger can size and makes more power with it . The Bisson family is a flying family that knows what works because they are there with it when used .
