n00bs- here is a good bash setup for ya
I have had my SportMaxx for a while... After a frustrating initial experience like others here, I have learned how to setup this truck great for backyard bashing, and on a decent budget too. I was hoping this info could help someone else.
I could not be happier with this thing now- it takes a royal beating week after week. I haven't had to replace a part in over a month now- before that I was at the hobby store every week.
Here is the setup-
- RPM A-Arms all around
- RPM skidplates- these things are little miracles in strengthening the vulnerable skidplate-bulkhead junction. I replace skidplate after skidplate until I installed these (note- these skids go OVER the stock skids- not a replacement) It really makes it strong
- RPM Shock Towers and Body Mounts
- RPM Bulkhead spacers
- Hitec MG645 steering- Stock Traxxas Hi Torque steering servo moved to Throttle duty
- Trinity Blue Springs (1ea) on each corner- made a WORLD of difference (stock shock oil too). Soaks up bumps and jumps, and doesn't sag at all, body doesn't roll, but it still has good travel. I think 8 springs would be too stiff, so I stuck with only 1 per corner.
So, here is the cost-
Trinity Blue Springs- $8
Hitec MG-645 Servo- $45
RPM Bulkheads- $8
RPM Shock Towers(2)- $28
RPM Skidplates- $15
RPM A-Arms(4)- $32
Endless bashing- priceless (lol)
Total cost is $135. These things altogether really have made me a happy maxx owner.
I don't really think I will upgrade anything else. I couldn't be happier at this point.

Oh, and I raised the body up, because I got tired of the cylinder head taking impacts when the truck rolled. The body, if up above the cylinder head will protect it from impacts no problem.
Oh, and I run Blue Thunder Sport 20% (not committed to it- just use it till it runs out) and an OS A3 plug.
Oh, and I tried the Integy CNC motor mount- It didn't do much better then the stock cast one. The XTM motor mount has done very well for me.

That RPM stuff really is pretty amazing. It's cheaper, lighter, and more durable than aluminum. I just wish that Traxxas would have put that quality of stuff on stock.

NO WAY!!!if that kind of quality came stock they'd jack up the price to like $750 instead of $600.to me $600 is still a rip off.
